Default CDR220 to PCCM+ Upgrade on 2002 C4

Been looking through the postings, and looking for some pointers on what I need to buy to upgrade my CDR220 to a PCCM+ (Porsche Classic Communication Management Plus - for those searching by full name).

I have a 2002 Carrera 4 Cabriolet with just the basic radio (no Bose, MOST, AMP, etc.). My slots go HVAC, CDR220, CD pop-out rack, open console shelf. This post is close, but has "Bose non-most system with PCM1 unit".

I have gathered steps as:
  1. Battery disconnect
  2. Remove CDR220 with keys and disconnect
  3. Remove/loosen the side panels with the buttons for PSM, lock, convertible top, etc. (need plastic removal tools - something like
    this this
    or this
    larger kit larger kit
    )
  4. Possibly remove the center vent (guess will see if needed when in there, not sure why necessary)
  5. Remove and relocate the climate control to bottom below the shelf (with trim 9965523390001C)
  6. Remove brackets and replace with
Metra Double DIN Kit 999605B Metra Double DIN Kit 999605B
  7. Install PCCM+ per instructions (found this link and hope box comes with it, also OCR'd and attached for ease of reference)
    1. Do not need GPS antenna if not install maps (use phone, so not needed)
    2. Install media interface in console shelf (understand short wiring and tight fit)
    3. There is a comment about alarm contact, but without a PCM1 I do not think this applies. If it does, it seems to just need to capped off/insulated which I would think some electrical tape would cover)
    4. No DSP eliminates that aspect
  8. Enjoy

MSRP for the unit seems to $1475 with crazy home shipping (or free to dealer). Suncoast Parts seems to have same thing for $1295 with free S&H.

From what I can see, the only tools needed are radio keys, plastic removal tools, and an assortment of drivers (torx, etc.). Should not need to crimp anything...

I am sure it will take me a few hours and a lot of effort, but seems to make sense... I love Apple CarPlay which is main reason for upgrade.

Am I missing anything? Thanks ya'll!

A couple of things... Don't skip the GPS antenna or the maps card. The maps is very up to date and you will need it from time to time when your phone is not with you, so install it now just to be safe. In addition I added the Sirius XM to my system and it is highly worth it as well ($49 or so, shop around). It is very nice to have on road trips or with sporting events. The interface for the tuners makes it super easy to use and the install is simple. I snaked my Sirius antenna to the front corner, drivers side of the dash and have minimal shadowing (drop outs). Hope that helps.

I just finished a 2002 C4S with Bose; based on my experience (https://rennlist.com/forums/996-forum/1298365-pccm.html) it sounds like it should be pretty plug and play for you.

I used the OEM brackets/parts; they did cost a quite a bit more than the amazon kit you linked though. I also got the maps card.

The box did not come with the physical installation instructions.

You also mentioned Apple CarPlay, you might want to look into a wireless adapter so you don't have to plug the phone in. I picked up an AA Wireless one for Android Auto (https://www.aawireless.io/), and it works beautifully so far; it doesn't do Apple CarPlay, but there are products that do. In my case, because i was planning on primarily using a wireless adapter, i put the media interface box in the glove box, so it's all out of the way and out of sight.

Good points both. I will do the maps card and GPS antenna! I had XM in my daily driver and rarely/never used it, but thanks. Prefer phone music (local or streaming). Do not think I need the wireless, but can always add later I guess. Have heard mixed things about wireless where it stays connected at home? But maybe a fluke. For Apple folks Amazon has
this adapter this adapter
.

Any steps I am missing otherwise? Also Suncoast with the maps still seems less vs MSRP and dealer etc.

Thanks @db984 for the link to yours. Which brackets/parts from Porsche did you use?

Yep, you can add the wireless later trivially; although if you are thinking to go that route, putting the media box in the glove box is a no-brainer. I actually had a couple PCCM+ crashes/reboots while using it wired; and haven't had that issue since going wireless. (although I've only had the wireless adapter in the car for a week, and have been out of town most of the week so haven't had a chance to use it much yet so I can't say it's really helped with that yet.) As for the "wireless stays connected at home" issue -- I mentioned this in the thread i linked to: I set PCCM+ standby setting to off, and then it immediately powers off the USB port when you turn the car off, which of course cuts powers to the adapter, which ends the wireless connection to it.

As for parts, this is what I have:

Quick question here - if you have the standard Becker radio, no amp, no cd changer (ie non-MOST) do you even need to install the MOST box with optical loop for the PCCM+ install? I have a 99 996 Cab with the basic radio option, Becker tape deck, four speakers - no amp, no Bose.
