Input - 996 as a daily driver?
I'm seeking input on how a 996 is for a DD. I have an XJ8 for my DD now and an 87 Carrera that I now just use for occasional trips to the office and weekend duty. I can't bear to part with my old Carrera so am thinking about replacing the XJ8 with a 996.
Original plan was an XJR or E55 to put some fun into my commute (~60 miles rt/ day) but I'm thinking a more civilized P-car would be more fun and meet my needs.
Wife would still have a sedan for when we need 4 seats plus I'll probably keep the old Land Rover for beating around/hunting. Occasionally I would have my 4 year old son in the back - 996 seems a little roomier than the Carrera.
So - is this a sane plan? Is it reasonable to put a booster in the back of a 996? Any of you found a compelling sales pitch that works with the wife?

A 996 is a normal car in the shape of a 911. The A/C works. The ride is very nice. It's quiet and civilized. In short, it has nothing in common with your 911 other than the vague shape and that it was made by a company that shared the same name and employed a vastly superior marketing and accounting staff.

My 996 is a terrific daily driver. In the past four months I have logged nearly 6K miles, and enjoyed every one of them. My daughter loves the Cab with the roof down, and it's a fun car to drive, no matter what the reason for taking it out.

My 996 has been my daily driver since I bought it new in 2000. I'm now at 92,000 miles, so admittedly I'm a bit closer to work than you, but I've been very happy with it. My kids (now 7.5 and 6) love riding in the back, either in boosters or now (since the younger turned 6) both in just the rear seats. I've even done Costco runs in it, although admittedly the minivan works a lot better for that.
We're in the same boat as you (3 cars: 996, 4 door sedan, and minivan for hauling) and it works out very well.

I agree with the previous comments. My 996 has been my DD since March, and I have been very happy with it. My daily roundtrip is also approximately 60 miles, mostly over country roads and a 4-lane divided highway.
I'm very happy with the C4S as a DD, and I would make the same decision again.

I spent 3 years with mine as a DD rain, shine and snow. Never a problem.
My son (8) loves to ride in it and my daughter (7) hates it because of the lack of space. It was fine when she was younger but once they get to that age space is tight....no question.
I'n now driving the Cayenne daily as my commute went from 20 miles a day to 100 miles and I didn't want to put the miles on the 996.
Go for it!

I'm buying a 996 for just that purpose. My workplace is 80 miles away (160 round trip) and I make that drive 3 days/week. I decided that if I have to drive a lot then why not make it fun?
My last two Porsche's barely averaged 100 miles/month. After I sold them I realized that my total cost of ownership was over $4.00/mile! Never again.
The car I buy will average over 20K miles/year as a DD.
