I ust sold my 89 3.2 in order to get a car that would work for me as a DD in the desert. The stock AC in the pre-964 cars is inadequate, so I found myself only driving in the milder months - and I wasn't interested in hot-rodding the old AC. Now that I have a 996, I can't see any shortcomings as a DD - except the size of the gas tank.

PHIL? You believed that line ??

He is PM'ing everyone telling them he is going to drive it ALL winter long

+1+ for Rudy - I planned for weekends and "nice trips with the wife" only... then reality struck and I commute in it all week, events on weekends or park it... its not my wife's favorite thing to take and since she requires food everywhere she goes, I dont mind NOT taking her in it

All very well and good - but posts about newly acquired 996's are virtually useless without the requisite photos and avatars. Pls update your thread with the required photo load

If he can drive anything other than a dogsled in the Michigan winter, good for him. I seriously doubt he's gonna take the Porsche out. He's already rented a stall in a 4 car garage with his name on it.

I can't part with my Carrera - it's just too much fun but I can relate as far as the heat/ AC as we've had 50+ days consecutive 100 F + days. So I'm trying to convince my wife that I also need a 996 to drive every day and that it's a great family car.

recently i had a conversation on an airplane with a fellow passenger. he and his son were on their way to monterey for the car show. he has a 993, guards red, etc. i told him i drive my C4 all year here in michigan. he called that a "waste".

i feel that the 996 is made for all year round driving. if i wanted a performance car that i could stare at and polish constantly, i'd have a ferrari. what i wanted was a car i could just drive regardless of the conditions outside. i believe that sentiment was in a recent "top gear" when they were comparing the new M6, carrera S, and aston martin at the isle of man.

good luck with that. i don't think the "newness" ever goes away. all said, it's a nice problem to have.

Drive the snot out of the 996 and you won't be disappointed. Most comfortable P-car i've ever owned. Real world ergonomics and creature comforts as well.
