Input - 996 as a daily driver?
#17
I got mine to be my DD. I'm about 60 miles rt for work, but I take the train most days (mainly bc of traffic). Just make sure you don't mind putting miles on your car. At 300 miles a week just commuting, plus whatever else you do at nights and on weekends, they'll add up quickly. I think mine came more bc I was driving all over on weekends bc I love driving the car. I'm constantly visiting friends out of state. My solution was to get one with lower miles so it wouldn't really matter

DD here as well. I have a 22 mile commute to work and it performs just fine. A/C works in this heat and the car is comfortable when you want it to be. Press on the gas and throw it into a corner and it transforms itself into a sports car.

Mine is a daily driver for work and always the weapon of choice from my garage when I plan to go a lot of miles for errands or road trip (gets way better gas mileage than the SUV). Get the roof rack and you can even bring home a couple sheets of plywood. LOL! Porsche has plenty of choices for booster seats for the kids. Front trunk is deep, and the back seat area can carry a kid and stuff since the rear seats are essentially split folding rear seats.
Do you need a Carrera 4? Depends on if it snows in your winter in your part of Texas. Could be considered a real safety convenience if it snows in yer neck of the woods.
Want even MORE flexibility - consider a Targa. That rear opening hatch can really expand the cargo area accessability.
The MORE you drive your 996, the LESS likely you are going to have a lot of those niggling 996 issues folks have here. Your Porsche was meant to be driven every day in every way.

I store my car for the winter, but DD during the summer. 4,000+ miles since I get the car at the end of April.
The car does not ride like a lexus, so the bad roads up in Cleveland can be kinda rough at times.

Daily drive mine in Houston. Its maybe the worst daily drive... only 3.4 miles... so its prob more wear and tear on the car - but [knocking on wood] it has done a terrific job!

Try this: "Honey, it's a very safe German-engineered car, little Johnny can sit in the back, and it gets 28mpg on the highway."
Of course you'll rarely get such great mileage because you'll be constantly tempted to race it around.
But she doesn't need to know that.

Mine is DD when there is no ice or snow in the forecast. I feel bad about my BMW so it gets driven once in a while to move fluids. I just put 800 miles on the Pcar in the past 4 days and it runs like a champ.
