Default Console Lid Hinge Replacement Questions

After reading numerous threads on this topic I have a couple of questions. Is there consensus on which kit to purchase? There are tons of them on the net for $20-$50 dollars. If you like the replacement you have will you tell me where to get it?
Second, do I have to remove the console to do the work? I have few skills but want to give this one a try. I actually have the pop rivet gun! Thanks

It can be done in the car but it is MUCH easier with the console out of the car and it only take about 15 minutes to remove the console if you've done it before, 30 if not.

By the way, get the genuine part. It's not going to be more expensive than the knock-offs.

I think I paid $20 at the dealer. I don't see any reason to buy anything else...

You know I can always tell when Ferdinand has posted in a thread, as it freezes up my browser while his animation loads and gets it's act together

Same here, in the car from Pelican. The directions weren't great , but it was easy enough to do and much more durable.

Hey - don't start!

I've turned off the display of signatures - pity, as I like looking at them.

Aww, that's no good either - I hate to think I drove off your signature.

I wish I could figure out why Safari stalls when it hits your sig.
