How can you tell if your 996 engine is the original?
Should there be an ID# on it somewhere that should match the VIN of the vehicle?
Thanks,
Todd

No number to match the VIN. there is a Porsche part number on the engine case. Remanufactured engines have an "x" at the end, so if you engine was replaced with a reman, it should have the x.

post a picture... many people can tell just from looking at it - took my shop guy like 2 seconds to say "yup, original motor"
pics of the underside and sides behind the wheels
something to do with a coating? on the original motor ? ? ? ?

Ok thanks. My car should arrive on or around Friday. Will follow back up with y'all.
Does anybody know exactly when the 996 switched from cable throttle to e-gas?

Order a CoA from PCNA.
It will have all the information to match chassis/trans/engine.
