So the reason I drove the car with summer tires in the snow was because I had chains I thought I'd put on. I didn't realize that fitting chains to a 295 size tire is pretty much impossible. After struggling for 30 minutes, I drove up to the entry booth(in the middle of a caravan of SUV's), stared the guy in the eye and said "I have awd, I'll be fine" and that was that.

I'm curious, has anyone succeeded getting chains on the rear wheels???

I didn't buy chains since I've got proper winter tires.

I'm still amazed that you were able to drive in snow like that with summer rubber. My car wouldn't have moved an inch in that. I guess not all summer tires are the same...

Also I think not all snow is the same. I think compacted snow yields better traction than a light snow which melts easily & forms ice... who knows.

Well, we've just had a ton of snow here in Calgary, and here's a picture of my car this morning - best winter car I've ever driven for sure! I realize my cellphone picture is a little blurry, but I think it sums up well how cold and bleak things were this morning at 7:30 am!

[QUOTE=ivangene;8064375]AWE MAN!! - That's the type a pic I am looking for!!!!

My car looked like that several times last year, in the parking lot at work.
I just never remembered to bring my camera to work.
I'll try to do better this year!

Ah but was it corralled off from the rest of the road by a genius in a snowplow? I think not!

This video is of the second session of the day, video wasn't working for the first session but you can see the snow on the buildings and the tire walls. I was on R-comp tires but they heated up just fine. Actually had some really quick laps... I figure a few extra HP from the cold air.

I drive the car year round but I think I'll get a 4x4 this year for the bad days. It'll be nice to have a nice high clearance and a car starter installed for those cold days because they all sleep outside.

I was just (re)adjusting the front wheel bearings Tuesday night and realized my winter tires are getting pretty worn....been tire shopping - its always a tough choice as to which brand/model/size

I told my indy that I was looking and I think they are going to source me some.... its good to have someone you trust help with these type of decisions - I am heading there this morning to take some pics of a wicked motor build.... I will post on the 911 board, you gotta see this thing!!
