How many 996's needed a new engine?
Seems like a lot from what I've read... I broke an intermediate shaft at only 11k miles. Porsche replaced the engine. The first one also had RMS.. the new one is ok. Now at 45k I am replacing the ignition switch. I drive it nearly every day. <no cracks about the snow, please!>

The answer to your question is no one has any idea (and never will) except Porsche. Please quietly move on and we will all pretend this post never happened.

dertub,
In case you can't tell, this topic 1) has been discussed ad-nauseam here, 2) has really frustrated many of us, and 3) has no real possibility of ever being answered with any amount of certainty, because as was mentioned immediately above ^ only Porsche knows for sure and they are not sharing that info.
There have been guesses that the percentage of engine failures is somewhere between 5% and 40%+.

I hear the Enzo has a much worse engine failure rate.
