Default Interminnent Litronic Failure--Help Please.

Hi Folks,

Recently I have noticed an intermittent Litronic failure. I have an '02 C2 Cab.
Occasionally (and happening more frequently now) when I turn the headlights on, both driver and passenger side Litronic Xenons will not turn on. All other front lights, including fogs, parking & signal lights and high-beam fill lights in addition to all rear lights, work fine. I have to turn the light switch on and off repeatedly and eventually both Xenons will equally ignite and turn on. This is not a single light or side issue, but rather happens to both right and left sides simultaneously -- either they are both off or they are both on at the same time (except for once when only the passenger side ignited). Once they are both on, they do not flicker nor do they turn off until I turn the switch off. When on, the brightness appears equal and normal.

Has this happened to anyone?

Any thoughts and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, in advance.

Not to be too obvious, but it sounds like you have a loose connection or wire, perhaps the common ground.

It's the light switch. It just happened to my wife's CAB earlier this year. Not difficult at all to replace. Involves removing of the light switch ****, a/c vent, replace the switch and then put back together.

Here is the thread I wrote up here in the 996 forum:

Thanks Dell.
Just read your thread...I didn't see it when I did my search.
I had a feeling it was the switch. Will replace it and see what happens.

Same symptom here, same fix. Don't forget the 3rd screw that is angled in under the ****. Switch is $10 cheaper at Sunset than Suncoast.

Thanks guys.
Is this a DIY job?
If so, are there pics somewhere of the removal/replacemement?
I can easily see the two small torx screws on the side of the AC cowling.
and there is a plastic dummy cap just below the vent. Is that where the 3rd screw can be found? I can't seem to remove the black plastic ****. Does it remove from the inside?

Thanks again.
