Default Need PPI if complete service history available??

I'm looking at a '99 C2 cab, lightly optioned, with 71k miles located at local Porsche dealer - asking $26,850. It appears that it is a one or two owner car that has always been serviced at this dealer location. The only other place I know of in the area that is a Porsche expert is an indie that seems always to be very busy and not sure how quick he could do a PPI. If complete records available and car seems clean, do you need the PPI?

If it's been more than a couple kmiles since the last service was done, I would have the PPI done. Can the dealer CPO the car?

How many miles since the service at the dealership? Also, try to talk to the technician who performed the service. Maybe he remembers an exhaust leak, or it being super clean, etc.

Most definitely. A service doesn't cover engine compression/leakdown test, paint analysis, how it drives, etc.

do the PPI...it's a no brainer. Just b/c service is done, doesn't mean there aren't evil issues lurking within.

Good luck!

The PPI still can't forecast what may be lurking around the corner. Just try to beat them down on price as much as possible. Then you will feel better if something major happens.

Well, I guess I was a little too slow on the draw as the car I was looking at sold yesterday. Anyway, thanks for everyone's input and I can see the way to go is to get the PPI (and probably an aftermarket warranty). After spending more time on this site and 6speed, I am starting to get over the initial panic regarding 996 engine failure and think I can put in a proper prospective. I also think I'll go back to my original plan of waiting a year or so and trying to get a '02 or '03 in the mid $30k range unless a smokin deal comes along.

Bill,

Welcome!! I have seen and read people who have pick up a low optioned 02 C2 in the low 30s right now. Its a buyer's market right now. Offer low and see what you get. Don't give up yet.
