What tools need for transmission fluid change
I have an early 2002 Carrera Coupe 2 Mk II (2001 build date)I have seen the service manual and it calls for 2 different wrenches to remove the drain. Is there a way to find out without having to pull off the undercovers and looking? I'd rather be able to buy the tool in advance and do the job all at once.
I think the options are triple square or hex.
Thanks,
Andy

I actually have a DIY page made for that http://p-car.com/996/diy/transmissionfluid/
(But the manual does say to fill to the bottom edge of the fill hole.)

Well, I did that at first and the synchros didn't wrok well at all.... So I drained some fluid. It could be possible that I didn't have car 100 level at the time because I ended adding about 4 quarts of Tranny fluid in there without any coming out of the filler hole. So eventually I over filled it.

A good way to make sure it is at the proper level when you are not sure the car is level, is fill it up and then lower the car back onto it's wheels with the plug out. Let it sit for 30 minutes or so and the extra lube will remove itself. Jack it up and install the plug.
You might also want to clean the extra lube off your floor too.

When you guys did you change, were crush washers on the plugs?
I did mine last night and was surprised to see no crush washers on neither the drain plug nor the fill plug. They were very tight! I put crush washers on both after fluid replacement.
Also, the drain and fill plug were the same plug. I thought the drain plug was going to be magnetic?

You mean type of fluid or service interval? I used Red Line 75/90. I would think frequencey would depend on driving style. DD maybe once every 2 years or so. Doing DE's maybe every year. That's my opinion anyway.
My car had 80,000 miles and the fluid coming out was very clean. It's a DD only.
