Default Wheel Offset OK?

Looking at some 19" wheels,
8.5" Front and 10.5" Rear.
Wheel Offset: ET45 Front and ET52 Rear

OK for a 996 Cab (Narrow Body)

Thanks!

What wheel width and offset do you currently have on your car? It is important to know that so you can assess how much the new wheels will EXTEND of RETRACT compared to the current wheels. Below is an EXAMPLE ONLY, assuming you currently have 8" wide wheel with 50mm offset in the Front and 10" wide wheel with a 65mm offset in the rear.

The front wheels would work as they will EXTEND 11mm compared to 8" wide wheel with 50mm offset. However the rear wheels are going to be "on the edge" because they will EXTEND 19mm compared to a 10" wide wheel with a 65mm offset. That would put the wheel rim about even with the rear fender and you will probably get some tire rubbing with 19" wheels.

Check out the diagram below to determine how much space between the tire and the fenter you have with your current wheels.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Current wheels are OEM (not sure if the name of them is correct) BBS Sport Design GT3 Porsche Supercup wheels. No idea as to what the offset of the OEM ones is.

your wheel size and offset is stamped by the valve stem

Dell, do you agree that a 19" wheel x 10.5" with 52 offset is pushing the "fit" envelope? Those almost sound like the same offsets that Cory (Tippy) is having trouble with on his NB 996.

Yes, it is WAY pushing it. Take a GT3 wheel and add a 5mm spacer in back. I can't see that working at all. Better to get something that fits properly than to try and fit a round peg in a square hole

So would you guys say that 19x8 and 19x10 is the max size or the narrow body 996's? What offsets should the wheels be in order to NOT require any spacers?

It's not so much that the 10.5 wouldn't work it's the offset that is all wrong. The 10" wheel can go as far out as the low 50's in offset and still work. The 11" wheel should be in the low 60's max, and your 10.5 should be in the high 50's max.

Also, don't forget, you need to be running a 25 series tire in that 19" size. That should put you in the 315 tire width range as I haven't seen anything smaller in the 25 series for a 19" wheel.

For that size rubber you need a 11" wheel.

Confused yet?

I am confused.. Because the offset for the rears in my original post is 52 with a width of 10.5. Yet the other posts say this will not work well.. Clarify please..

thanks. Is there a place that shows a table recommended offsets for different diamaters and widths ? This would be most helpful to me and I am sure many others.

Last question.. for a 19" wheel, 10.5" wide what is the optimum offset for a 2002 996 Cab narrow body?

Thanks again..

nope. you really need to just run off the FACTORY settings and then decide how much inboard or out you can go both aesthetically and functionally.

As for your 10.5" wheel question.....there really isn't an optimum but probably more of an optimal range. If you could keep the offset range from 65 to 55 with going toward 55 pushing more outboard and toward 65 more inboard.

Running a 10.5 wheel with the same as your factory offset on a 10" wheel of 65 you have basically increased it 1/4 inch on both sides (6mm a side). It the equivalent of adding a 6mm spacer to the factory wheel. Going to the offset of 55 would be like adding the factory 17mm spacer which IMHO and most here is about the max you can feel comfortable with.

front will fit fine... the rear offset is way to agressive for 19".... If they were 18's they will be fine but will be at the very edge of fitting correctly.

Dell, I think you meant "... have basically increased it 1/4 inch on both sides..."
