What is the coolest Porsche license plate you saw???
 

I am trying to decide on a new license plate for my 911 and the one I like best so far is IX XI stands in roman numerals for 9 11. What do you guys think? What are some cool Porsche plates which you guys have seen?

My favorite I've seen was CALL 911 and then I would have to say my second favorite is my own NRBGRNG (Nurburgring)

Something to think about....I remember one list of top 10 dont's with your 911...one of them was having a personalized license plate that was cool and easy to remember for those you fly by on the freeway that call you in to the local police....and I think they were speaking from experience.

I thought long and hard about this very issue before I got my plate.

In the end I figured that my car was unique enough within this area and that I'd be driving by so fast that it really didn't matter. :evilgrin:

My friends were amazed that I considered a personalized plate as a speeding deterrent.

BTW, Schnell was one of my choices that was already taken. :)

coolest one was FLITE996 but i heard they asked him 2 turn it in after 9-11....some ppl are just too uptight.

One of my admins has WTF. Apparently the folks at MN's DMV don't spend much time on the internet. I suppose that's a good thing.

My favorite was in Portland in the 80s. There was a very attractive woman I would see in a 911 with the plate IMKEPT. I never met her but was told she was a successful trader and got the plate as a joke.

The plate on my first 996 was DGE 911. I must have been asked 100 times what it meant. The truth was is meant nothing. It was just the plate they gave me. I'm really not a personalized plate kind of guy.

True Story.
I moved from a boxster to the 911 2 years ago when I got married and was going to give the box to my new wife (we sold two houses to combine into one, so had enough wiggle room to keep both cars and a very p-car supportive wife)

Here is the strange part.
Her name is Karna (unusual name, right?) went to the MN DMV and someone already had the tag. We couldn't believe it, and my wife had never met another Karna...about three months later we were running to the mall and a blue boxster slides by us - rear plate reads KARNA - we both started laughing and got her attention at the next light. End up talking about the names, cars etc...then she says she is a realtor in the area...wife is also a realtor!

Sorry for the long story, but I have tell the story when people bring up plates.

My favorite is an upside down cover that reads:

At the DMV, I just got a standard plate -- but I sweet talked the gal into digging down in the pile and finding one that ended in "996"!

NY State DMV has a site to inquire availability of vanity plates. I have been entering various options.
Recently tried all possible versions of "Whoooosh" (8 letter max). This morning I saw a new Vette with "Whoosh" on it. If it were the lottery it would have definitely been in the NYC area.
XZILER8 is available but not XLR8 which I would have jumped on.

That a good one TD - I lived in San Antinio for 30 years. I really liked Texas, & may move back there some day.

In NC, and it may be the same in other states, if there is a symbol, it does not count as a letter.

My registration reads PORCHA (PORCHE was taken)

On the tag it reads POR$CHA

If I get a personalized plate it is going to be either...... GOT PICS?....or...... @#$% PICS!

Hmmm? :confused: I'm Austrian so I should have some basic knowledge about German but I've never heard "ninety one one". Doesn't even make sense to me; it's 90 1 1 and not 911; in German you usually hear "Neunelfer" so putting the last two letters behind the number would make sense.

I'm not a big fan of personal plates, but I rather like IXIXVI. It's a tough one for anyone who isn't in the know to remember too.

A couple of mine...

Not on a Porsche but an interesting pair of plates on a Bentley and Aston Martin Vanquish parked in a car port on a house on Chelsea Embankment (one of the main thoroughfares into London and running alongside the Thames) - 2 B and NOT 2 B.

2 B is one of the first British plates from the early 1900's, while NOT 2 B is from the early sixties. Tricky to get one, very tricky to get both. Pair worth at least $200,000.

If you pick a plate that 99% of the population doesn't understand, and spell it in l33t sp33k, you bypass the "everyone can remember it" problem, but you instead get to explain what the plate means.

The California pattern for standard plates is 1AAA111 (one number, three letters, three numbers)...5CHN3LL is close enough at first glance that many people never realize it's a vanity plate...

In NZ, number plates are assigned randomly unless you want to pay to select a 'special' plate.

This is the new plate for my car which is being sold and used to have a personalised plate. Notice how coincidental the new plate was? When I pointed this out to the local DMV lady she didn't get the significance :-( Some people eh.

I recently bought a 997.1TT and was debating tags, however here in Delaware was also have these great small vintage Black & White tags that all of my cars already have and look great on white. I was debating these however: NOTAVW MEZGER REDGUTS

On topic: On a very bright blue air-cooled 911 near the MSP airport over 20 years ago: YONDER.
Nearly on topic: I have always thought a good plate for a turbo would be: FLOYD R (Johnny Carson reference for the younger crowd).
Close to topic: On a supercharged, tubbed, big-block Chevy II seen many years ago: UD LOSE.

I thought about using "NEIN11" for mine, as it's currently available in TX, but haven't decided on it just yet...

I saw the license plate "Nein 11" on a 993 here in Virginia when i was a teenager. I thought it was the coolest plate I had ever seen, still do! As you can see it inspired my username :thumbup:

Perhaps I'm missing something, but why would you do that? It means "No 11" and I don't know what that means.

NVRFRGT, which i would need to use an alternate spelling of because its taken in one or two variations in NJ. Understandably so account the proximity to NYC.

MAUVE, my car is Mirage Metallic and frankly thats just a funny sounding word for a color. Also there seems to be a pinkish/light purple-ish hue to this paint depending on lighting.

The good old days, when a gold on black California plate meant it was an old car. That sort of ticked me off when I came back to California on a business trip and saw that now you can just order these colors for plates.

Nothing aimed at you... I'm just a cranky old guy whose eyes are trained to spot cars with old plates. Now there are these.

Ha ha, I have one of these "new, old looking plates" on my '63 Nova too. ;)

Yup CA found another source of money by charging 50 bucks for initial charge and 40 bucks a year more after that, A lot of guy's were taking their license plate and painting them to the old style black plate with yellow lettering.

I just could not use the BOXTER (tag from the 09 Boxster) on the 996...

In California very difficult to get a good custom plate because lots of drivers and rules such as can't have 3 letters and 3 numbers so no "AKA 911" etc. We had a really cool plate ordered and they wrote to us it was too close to one already issued so can't have, but I think a state employee liked and it's on their vehicle right now.

So we ordered this one, and we'll see if they write another letter rejecting because one of their employees also thinks California has #1 sun in the nation and wants it.

For my next plate, I'll take a cue from a triathlon inspired moment. When you pass someone in a tri (always on the left), you should always give them warning. You often do this with saying "On your left" as you approach them from behind to pass. So naturally, the license plate would be "ONURLFT".

License plate is the same as my handle on here. I wanted something subtle enough that only other Porsche nuts would get it.

My friend has the LFTGKLT plate on his air cooled 911. We haven’t managed to get them together for a photo yet.

Had MM-CMXI on my 2000 911 C4 Cab. Just bought a newer 911 and now need to come up with a new plate as the MM (2000) doesn't work any longer

Being the numbers geek that I am, it was fitting using Roman Numerals for my 2000 (MM) 911 (CMXI)

It was almost impossible to get a custom plate for our 911 because CA has arcane rules for letter/number combinations and all good ones taken. Finally we got a plate approved, then they sent a rejection letter saying the combination was in use, we appealed, and after about a year they finally sent us the below: California has number "1 SUN" in the nation!

My Turbo has the plate, "NO IMS."

I was considering "RAD 991" or "MYRAD991" or "AWESM991".. kind of a spin on my growing up in the 80's. Something about using 911 in a plate feels in current cancel culture doesn't feel right to use anymore.

Just found out that my personalized plate in CA finally got assigned earlier this month.
Should be receiving it within the next 30 days from the central mailing center.
It's been a little over 7 months.

Where did you find information about your plate? I have one that I have been waiting almost 7 months for as well.

I called the DMV.

The gal on the phone was very helpful and told me that my plate was finally assigned on Oct. 10th.
But it could still take another 30 - 90 days to reach me according to what she explained to me.
It goes to a mail depot in Sacramento and that's where the next big delay will take place.

Mine on its way to get torn down for a 3.8 ltr rebirth. The 1 Series I daily has EYYYBOZO. I live in Brooklyn and find myself saying it at other drivers a lot when driving around town. In the 911, I am the bozo.

Both! — the exhaust tip is the wide oval “EP4110”. Sourced one on eBay and haven’t gotten around to installing it.

The script I removed this summer. The PO had put on “Carrera CS” — I am debating on either the “911” badge, or simply “Carrera” but for now I am enjoying the no badge look.
