Default slight clutch slipage ?

have put approximately 1300 miles on my new to me 996 6 speed. and just noticed yesterday that under 2000 rpms in any gear if your acclerate aggressively i get a 2-400 rpm surge then it grabs ? is this normal or is it going to be clutch time? adjustment etc...sorry for the stupid question but not familiar with porsche characteristics.

"slight clutch slipage ? " that's like saying that your girlfriend, who is 3 months pregnant, is only slightly pregnant.

how long do these clutches last under NORMAL usuage. no track days, daily driver primarily highway? and are there any other recomendations while its being done. upgrades, oem or aftermarket etc ? dont want a lightweight flywheel ? is OEM the best bet or are there any aftermarket ones out there that are better ?

Sounds quite normal to me. my '01 C4 book says never below 1500 RPM even for constant speed cruising so IMMHO 2000 RPM for acceleration (let alone AGGRESSIVELY) would be pushing it, marginal, "on-the-cusp" as it were. Porsche has NEVER been famous for clutches that perform well at these low engine RPM levels.

Lightweight clutches with coupling increasing via centrifical forces as RPM rises.

No Dragster, these.

But.

Total Odo mileage is....?

65,000 miles. and let me re-phrase. if driving at say 40-50 and due to traffic the rpms' drop into the low 2's then you accelerate to change lanes the rpms would 2,3,400 b4 grabbed. also when at 60-65 mph in 4th, 5th or 6th if you accelerate it does the same. its clutch time im sure. was just unsure if there were any adjustments on these vehicles. spoke to a dealer in my area and he saod usually clutches need to be replaced between 30-40k miles...my last car 2000 vette, i sold with 118k miles and clutch was still fine

Well if you just bought it...there is no telling how it was driven by the previous owner....I have 139k miles...original clutch, NO slippage at any RPM.....If you are just doing normal driving, not a huge amount of track time, dont get a lightweight flywheel..., you wont see its advantages, and you will live daily with the disadvantages....you will either need a more expensive clutch as well or you will have reduced life of the stock clutch.

Check your RMS and IMS while getting your clutch replaced. If needed it will never be cheaper!

This is why the Search function is so useful. My car has been exhibiting the same rpm surge. It happened again about 5 miles from the dealership, so I pointed the car's snout that way. The service dept writer said "Sounds like a MAF sensor to me."

On Monday I will call a real service writer at this dealership. We'll see how good the extended warranty is.
