I installed my Alpine CDA-9883 using the metra harness. It said orange was for the Dimmer, and I connected it but it doesn't seem to work.

If i turn my dimmer all the way down, my display starts to flicker a bit on the radio, so there is something happening there, but its not dimming.

Anyone get "dimming" to work on a aftermarket HU? Solution?

I hooked up my JVC HU via the illumination wire, don't remember the color, and mine works when I turn on my headlights.

Was the orange connected to a dimming power source, like the instrument panel voltage source?

I used the metra harness. And so it was orange from the apline to orange of the metra. And it does work, just the dimmer dial doesn't work, but it does have two levels of brightness, one for without the headlights on and one for with (dimmer)

Could someone re-live this conversation and check for me as to what color I would need to tap into so that my Pioneer can dim when the lights are on?
Where is the wire located?
