Default driving difference between 17 and 18 inch wheels on 996 C2

Hi all,

I have a new to me 2001 C2 Cab with 17 inch wheels. The car has almost 25000 miles.

The question: Can 18 inch wheels (smaller sidewalls on tires) make the c2 behave a bit sharper? My Porsche Center advices me to go for 7,5Jx18 inch ET 50 front and 10Jx18 inch ET 65 rear. A good local Porsche specialist advices me to go for 8,5Jx18 inch ET45 front and 10Jx18inch ET54 rear, for better stability and better looks. Both advice the same tire dimensions and make (Michelin 18x225 and 18x265). What is the best option?

Should I also consider the M030 springs & dampers?
Sorry for these NooB questions, but I'm kind of new to the 996 Carrera 2, I used to drive a Boxster S.

Oh and don't worry, already booked a Porsche driving course for March.

You answered my suggestion in your last sentence. i don't really think it's going to make as much of a difference except in tire price. Getting the proper air pressure each time, now thats the challenge.

Max,
My config is below. My observations are that the 265 rears are not quite wide enough to fit nicely on the 10" rim. I will be going to 275's just to fill the rim out on my next change (could be the pirelli width is narrower?). The 225's seem to fit perfect on the 8" rim but going 8.5 I would def. go up to a 235.
Mine came with the 18's so I have no comparison to the 17's, but I'm sure your ride will firm up some by going +1.

Config...
Offsets and sizes on OEM classics 18"
R - 265/30-ZR18 on 10" rim offset 65
F - 225/35-ZR18 on 8" rim offset 52
(pirelli assymetrico's)

Agreed, The 275 looks like it fits better on the rear. I would have gone with the 285 but tey dont make it in the tires I use.
