Question Porsche Hood Crest Installation

The hood crest on my 996 lost a post and I ordered a new one from Pelican. However, the black, rubber seal that comes with the kit seems way too small to fit around the outside of the crest. Has anyone installed one of these on their cars? Maybe I was sent the wrong size seal...

When I ordered the silver hood crest to replace the gold one for my car, the rubber seal that came with the new crest fit but I had to really stretch it and it was a pain to install. I ended up just using the old rubber seal from the gold crest since there was nothing wrong with it and it was already stretched/formed nicely.

Part of the problem is that my old seal is broken. Ouch. Maybe heating it up with a hair dryer?

axel6,
I would immerse the new gasket in a bowl of very hot water for 5 minutes or so. That should give it the pliability you need.

Also, when securing the new crest, be careful to just snug the 8mm nuts down. My original hood crest was actually warped because the clear bra installer tightened the nuts too much. The new crest should sit snug, but evenly in the gasket.

Andreas...thanks! I was thinking either hot air/water would do the trick. I will try it out tomorrow.

That is very true...be careful when placing the nuts back on....overtightening can warp and also snap the studs.
