its a great thread and you will LOVE the results of your efforts - keep in mind its louder outside than inside so you might feel like its a little tame, but open the windows and throttle

I love the mod. I thought it would be much louder, but hey, you can't beat it for $80 bucks and 3 hours labor. No regrets! And yes I like to have the windows down and occasionally drive thru a self serve car wash. I don't wash the car, I just like the sound of the car off of the walls.

Fister is just the only guy we know of who has made a business out of doing this..... he's really good, and a top notch person to work with. His prices are reasonable too... but the mod itself is basicly the same and yes, two cans get it

I'm buying a pair of 3.6L cans for my 99 carrera, and am planning to do the MKII hack with 2.25' pipes. Anyone have any thoughts on if I also did the MKII hack with a 1" pipe what the result would be?

I'll go out on a limb and guess it will be significantly quieter than with the larger diameter.

I just got a set of 3.6 cans with 2.5 inch bypass pipes on my 2000 Carrera Cab, and I'm REALLY happy with the results! As mentioned previously, you don't hear them as much from the drivers seat unless you're climbing through 3000 revs, but people around you will certainly notice! I think they are the perfect balance of not being too obnoxious under normal driving, no drone, and when you give it some throttle, there is a wonderful bark that was missing with my stock 3.4 cans. Thanks to all on this thread for giving their input on this mod! Those that haven't done it yet, what are you waiting for?!

Here's a video of an autocross run I did last year. You can get a sense of the MKII muffler hack sound. I think I had posted this before, but I couldn't find the thread...

On my 2002 C4 Cab, I did the MkII mod with 2" pipes a few weeks ago. Coming from my '02 Vette with an SLP exhaust and intake, it wasn't doing it for me. I expected it to be at least a little bit louder at idle, which it wasn't. When I did get on it, that's where I could hear where the money went. So I went back to my shop and had them do the MKI mod with 2" as well.
This was the sound I was looking for! The Vette is still louder, but now at idle I can hear the rumble a little bit and it's a little louder than before. Regular driving definitely is more fun now! The overall sporty sound has increased without sacrificing my hearing. I'm very happy with it. For those deciding which mod to do, do both!

Just a point of information. Darin Fister now performs the same mod regardless if the cans are 3.4 or 3.6, so there is virtually no difference in sound between the two. If you have an MKI car, don't waste your time looking for a set of 3.6 cans for the mod. Your 3.4 cans will sound great.
