I looked for (and found) a Blue 996 about 18 months ago. During that search I was initially looking for a Midnight Blue and found quite a few of them. However, I ended up getting a Lapis (which I like very much), because of the options and the low miles (6,450) on a 2004 996.

If I had to "guess" on the mix of blue 996 cars I would say Midnight = 60%, Lapis = 25%, and Cobalt = 15%. This is just my guess, with no data to back it up.

BTW, there are currently 296 "blue" 996 cars, years '99 - '04, listed on Autotrader.

Thanks for all the replies.

Tim -- That may true -- but then when I factor in the post-facelift years, manual transmission, mileage below a certain threshold, and the slew of options that I'm looking for, even on a national basis, this number then drops down to single digits... But thanks, though.

This thread brings up a subject that I've been wondering about for some time. I have an Iris Blue 99. But when I see a Lapiz blue or some other blue...It really doesn't seem like I can tell the difference in some of the shades....like the difference between the Lapiz and the Iris. Can you tell the difference? Or is the difference primarily related to a name change? Maybe I'm just color blind!!

Lapis is Lovely.

It was my first choice, followed by Midnight, and then Ocean Blue, Black, and then Plaid. The fact that the car had under 15,000 miloes was a 2003 adn is CPO'ed (all at what I feel was a fair price) sealed the deal.

Ocean Blue Metallic... Why Porsche ever did away with this color on the 911 I'll never know.

I have cobalt envy... I wish it was as standard color. A cobalt C4S would be awesome, but I've never seen one.
