Post 996 dash NOISE

Once in awhile when I first start my 01 C4 I hear a racheting sound, 15-20 secs, coming from inside the dash. Wouldn't repeat for the dealer of course.

Anyone else had this problem?

You sure it's from the dash? I have the same sound when I turn the key first time in the day, but it's coming from the engine compartment. I think it's the gas pump pressurizing the lines.

It's difficult to say, about the time I think I have pin-pointed the location it stops. My best guess would be on the drivers side of the battery if not in the dash near the firewall.

Would the fuel pump be that noisy? I can hear the one in my 78 before it starts but this is extremely loud in comparison.

wwest, I have a noise that may be the same as yours. Mine sounds like a sort of snapping, like two plastic pieces rubbing, and comes from the dash. When the outside temp is high the sound disappears. But when the outside temp is very low, the snapping/rattle is at it’s worst. Pounding on the dash will make it change or go away temporarily. My solution to date has been to avoid driving it when it’s cold out
