Short Shift Install- Dealer incompetence?
I took my 2002 996 to Porsche of Arlington in Virginia and Asked them to install a Tech Art short shift kit today.
After about 5 hours i got a call from them telling me it would take 3 hours to install the kit. I about crapped myself, knowing that some people did it themselves in under an hour with the car on ramps.
Anyway, got a call at the end of the day saying they couldn't install the kit, it was aftermarket and didn't fit right. The Porsche "master mechanic" who is a 20 year veteran couldn't do it with the directions techArt included with the kit, so they just put it back stock.
What gives? Is this really that hard? How could these guys be that incompetent? Any dealers or techs local to DC that could put this thing on for me? Doesn't TechArt design these things for factory applications?
Any advice or consolation or clarity would be appreciated. <img src="graemlins/cussing.gif" border="0" alt="[grrrrrrr]" />

I have a 99 with the B&M short shifter and it works great. Took me about 1.5 hours to install and I was being careful.
Some 02 owners have said the shifter in the 02's is different and much better than the previous shifter. I do not know what was changed (if anything) but if Porsche did change the design then the TechArt upgrade may not fit.
