Post Anyone try the BMC filter for their 996?

Wanted to get some user feedback on the BMC line and specifically on the unit for the 996 airbox.

Thumbs up

I have the BMC filter. You can here the difference using the stock airbox. Defenitely more air intact. Incombination with my re-mapped chip from Autothority, much more pull from 3500 and up.

Have you cleaned it yet? How well did it fit in the airbox?

Question

What's a BMC filter and where do you get one?
How much does it cost? Does it void the Porsche warranty?

How does that help performance? I also heard that it causes one of the warning lights to go on. Is that true?

Thanks

I've used a BMC filter for some time in my 99C2. I seriously doubt that it provides any meaningful performance gains and I personally did not hear any difference in sound (Fabspeeds may have covered the sound?) but it is a well made filter that fits perfectly in the original airbox.

Oris, the BMC being refered to is just a filter element. I don't remember the price but it's not too expensive. It should not void your warranty but I suppose it could if it fails. I have had no problems with it triggering a warning light. You may be thinking of the Powerflow.

So then what is the benefit of using a BMC filter? Doesn't sound like it works any better than the stock unit, and yet it forces the issue of warranty if it ever becomes a problem.

I wouldn't go that far. I think the BMC filter is probably better than the stock unit. My point was just not to expect too much. There is no way an air filter is going to add noticeable performance to your car. Regarding the warranty, I really don't see it as an issue.
