Post Gtech Pro Results

996 C2 6 Speed - New clutch and New S02's - T/C off

FIRST TRIALS:
0-60 5.2sec
60-0 210ft
1/4mile 13.8 sec @ ?? Miles

BHP on the wheels 205hp *I'll have to run this again as it is not consistent even after factoring with losses in between*

Yet to test maximum forward and lateral accelaration.

I contacted Gtech Pro assistant who gave me a few hints on being able to improve on the above figures. I am even looking for good tarmac in this city to grip the tyres!

I'll be back!

THIS IS GTECH REPLY:

Now for a little GTech 101.....

The GTech is not connected to your car so it cannot know anything but what it senses.
It is an accurate measurement and computation tool but it cannot compensate for....
- transmission friction losses
- reduction in force delivered by using high gears
- wind drag losses
- tire friction losses
- wheelspin due to tires or pavement condition (more on this later)
- driver behaviour (sorry, some people don't drive the way they think they do, tho I'm sure it's not the case with you)

So, the fact that you can duplicate a total system number like 0-60 is normal, becauese you are comparing the same thing.
But horsepower is a different animal. Why? Because the common number is a crankshaft number and you are measuring the total system less all the additive losses.
What the GTech is looking for is simply weight, which you give it... and instantaneous accelleration force which you must make happen. It calculates hp from there.
To maximize acceleration force (and I'll draw on my 24 years with Michelin now) you must be..
a) at max throttle
b) at peak horsepower r.p.m.
c) inducing just a little wheelspin, This is where maximum traction occurs.
Too much and you loose traction (and accelleration force measured by the GTech).
Too little and you're not delivering the tires all they can handle, i.e. you're not delivering peak power.
d) on grippy pavement
If you're on slippery pavement, nothing will help you.

So your result is not at all unusual, because the GTech PRO is limited by all these variables.
You'll never achieve manual stated crankshaft numbers, because you cannot make certain factors disappear... but you can improve by controlling as many as you can and knowing that
in 1st gear
at peak r.p.m.
inducing slight wheelspin
on grippy pavement
with good tires
properly inflated
will provide the highest number possible.

Enjoy, but don't lose your clutch over this.

I'm surprised by the 60-0 number. Was ABS activated? Was it really 210ft? I would think this figure should be much lower. This looks more like an 80-0 figure. Am I missing something?

Sounds about right. I did some playing around with my car during winter, traction was quite poor, but I was able to run pretty consistant 4.9-5.0's

Sure thing Ed, but you got Xenon Lights!

...might make a difference you're stock 30hp over me (mine is a '99) plus the x51 kit plus suspension (might this make a difference?! traction, stability, etc..)

Beats me!
