Post air-cooled 996C4S??

has anyone checked out the new 996 C4S yet? was at the dealer yesterday and there was one there preparing for its launch here in march.
started it and it caught me by surprise. it sounded a lot more like the 993 than the 996. the guy said the exhaust was only standard! anyone know what changes have porsche made, if any, to make it sound so much better?

Not air cooled, it is the new standard exhaust for 2002. Porsche re-engineered the mufflers with a new design. They basically did away with the 180 degree baffle design that promoted self cancelling of the sound waves. Instead a basically straight-through design application was called for. My '02 996 Cabrio sounds almost like my '96 993 C4 with the Motor Sound Exhaust option did. Impressive I must say, nothing sounds as good especially when accelerating above 3500 rpm.

Sounds great, dosent it? The standard '02 Carrera exhaust(not just C4S) is improved in this way.

Wish I had one....

Variable: There is essentially nothing in common between the normally aspirated 996 motor and the turbo. Hence the answer to your question is no. The 415 hp turbo is the same for 2001 and 2002. Porsche does make reference to exhaust changes in describing the X50 option, which takes the car to 450 hp. This option became available in late 2001, for 2002 model build.
