Unhappy There's A Mouse in My Hardtop

I finally bit the bullet and installed the hardtop today. I keep it in a crate I built in my extra garage/storage shed. As I was cleaning the interior I noticed a not so pleasant odor. I saturated and dried the headliner several times w/a mixture of water and carpet/upolstry cleaner; I then repeated w/Lysol. I got the smell out pretty good and went to pick up my boys and air it out. I get about four miles from my house when I see a mouse in my rearview mirror. I pulled over and tried to coax him out, but he just went right back in where I couldn't get at him. I had to get my boys so I hit the road again and picked them up. We drove home w/the windows down (I was also weaving like a maniac when no other cars were around) trying to freeze/freak him out. Pretty soon my oldest starts screaming and crying, "He's on me!!!" We pulled over again and I still couldn't get him out. Now I'm home and have old towels and mouse traps all over the car. I even made a trail of sunflower seeds to try and lure him out. When my wife gets home we're going to take off the hardtop so I can clean the headliner properly. Now I have no idea where the little bugger is. Has this happened to anyone else? Any suggestions as to how to properly clean the headliner?

Get it out asap or you will have the wiring harness insulation and other plastics serve as dinner. There was a Boxster at my dealer that was parked in a barn and it had $20,000 in rodent damage. Get professional help to make sure they are all gone.

they like peanut butter.............

I keep my hard top in my office, when it is not on the car, for exactly that reason.

It might be an old wives tale but I had a friend who used to leave a bar of Irish Spring soap in his cars. He said that the mice and rats didn't like the smell. He never did have rodent problems and the area he lived in was notorious for mouse problems. Wouldn't hurt to try $1.25 for a bar of soap or 1k+ in electrical damage. As C4FDR stated headliner is the least of your worries. If you wouldn't mind I would like to know the outcome of the soap idea. Thanks

My mechanic told me to put either natural mint or Bounce in my car for the winter. Now when I go in the garage I get that "dryer fresh" scent everytime!
Good luck with the eviction.
