I did it in 1996 with the Belgian Porsche Club. It started with a dinner with the press dept. The next day we had a 2 hour or so factory visit. We saw everything but the paint shop. This was followed by 1 hour in the museum, lunch in what they call the casino (mess hall) and then 3 hours of driving any of Porsche current line-up. I drove two cars in 1996: Boxster and 993C4s both of which I really enjoyed (I did not like the 986 at first but then bought one anyway...)
If you have a day to spare, it's probably a good thing to do. Is it Seefeld that you are going to? If yes, it's a place that should be real nice for 2 days.

Almost unbelievably, I once lived in Stuttgart and only a few KM's from the Porsche Factory. I never went near the place.
I was in love with MB's during those days.

I went there recently, and I highly recommend it. My tour lasted two hours in the factory, and then I was about 45 minutes in the Porsche museum.
It sure is worth a 100 mile detour. You will probably never be so close again, and will always regret it if you don't...
You had better sign up on time though...

My wife and I will be in Europe late September and intend to visit Porsche. DO you need to book ahead or can you just show up. Does it get crowded. Any recommendations for good hotels close by?
