The best part about driving a porsche is......
....the look I see on young boys' faces when I drive by.
The boys (about 7-12 years old) seem to just light up like they just saw Santa on his sleigh on Christmas eve when I drive by. They smash their faces against the window with eyes wide open to get a closer look. Then they turn and tell their mom or dad who usually seem to be rather disinterested. Most of the time their jaw just drops as I slowly drive by and give a polite wave.
I was this young boy once.
I really don't like any attention, but this has happened several times and it always brings a big smile to my face and makes me feel like a kid again.

Exactly. I remember when I was a boy how I felt. The kids in my neighborhood are so excited when I drive by... it reminds me of when I was a kid.
Peace,
Rob

I see this all the time, I was also that kid growing up excited to see a Porsche go by. Now I just look in the garage and pinch myself. I like the tough chicks that work at the convenience store that are gazing out the window when I pull up they make a point of saying "thats a beautiful car" when I pick up a paper or some coffee. They usually are missing some teeth and I think GOD am I lucky or what!!

I was right there 29 years ago. Except I was only able to see the cars in magazines. 911 turbo carrera. Ohhh maw gawwwdd! I saw one in person a few years later in Santa Fe. It was like the second coming. I giggle a little every day when I get in the car.

Wow, timely thread. Just today on my way home from work, sitting at a light, I look to my left and there is a car full of excited 10-12 yr olds staring at the P. It totally reminded me of my youth.

Listening to the exhaust and the sensation of "oneness" between man and machine.
As a side note:
I have to admit that I didn't see a lot of Porsches in the blue collar neighborhood where I grew up (Gary, IN). As a kid, I did, however, grin ear to ear whenever I saw a Smokey and the Bandit Trans-Am with T-Tops and the eagle on the hood. My point is, I can relate to being the excited little boy watching his dream car go by.... it's just that my dream car wasn't made in Germany. I caught 45 minutes of Smokey & the Bandit while flipping through the channels a couple of weeks ago. I must admit that I had to ask myself "What in the hell did I ever like about that car???"
Not trying to sound snobby, but fortunately for me, my tastes have evolved over the years.

The feeling of kinship when crossing another P-car owner in traffic and getting a wave back: this only happened to me once before with my Golf GTi but never since and never as often as now.
The physical, aural and emotional sensation that it provides whenever I drive it.
And yes, the reminiscence of my childhood when I see boys staring and pointing.
Priceless... well almost.

On my way home after first buying it, I stopped at a rest stop to talk on the phone, and right after I parked, 3 kids knocked on my window and asked if they could take pictures with my car. I got out of the car and let them pose with it- handing the camera back and forth as they all had their turn. It was pretty cool. I've wanted a 911 for about 30 years and I still can't believe I finally bought one. I am addicted to driving it - I am always looking for a reason to drive somewhere.

I must admit, I rember being a little kid drooling over the P cars. I have been a fan for over 20 years and still have some magazines from as far back as 15 years ago with Porsches in them. It always brings a smile to my face when I see another kid stare at my car as I sit in traffic. Or better yet the kid that stops walking to stare and gets tugged from their parents, that always makes me kind of chuckle.
