Slomaro's slorrera

Happy to finally be a Porsche owner in SW PA, my neighbor growing up had a 986 Boxster so for me the 996's headlights feel right. After building a small shop (installing a lift this year) this winter and selling my fishing boat it was time to go on the hunt. I knew I wanted a manual coupe and I want to fix things so I was mainly looking for a rust free example with a clean title. I found this 2004 Carrera locally for $25k with 54k miles, it shows fairly well, had the IMS retrofit done in 2017 (planning to go to the solution shortly) and the borescope looked excellent. The dealer also included a replacement steering column stalk assembly. I left a fair amount of budget to fix things early so what it needs:
  • Brakes
  • Starter
  • Needs probably isn't the right word, but updating the IMS
  • Fluids
  • Fix the active spoiler
  • Refinish the wheels
  • Shocks and springs, all the bushings look shockingly good
  • Some interior plastics
  • Whatever else I find along the way
Including a pic of my daily G63 too

Car looks great; your to-do list looks spot on. What are you doing to the steering column. Also G63 looks in its element and was made for the snow.

Congrats! You will have a blast with it.

Consider the following as well...

1. Replacing the water pump
2. Upgrading the AOS to the UAOS
3. Check age/condition of fuel injectors, maf, ignition coils, plugs and oil pressure sender. Always helps to have fresh ones after 20 years.

Enjoy the winding roads of western PA!

Thank you it was a tank for this year's ski season, pretty happy with the nitto G3s. The cruse control stalk was broken and hanging by the wires, but the dealer I bought it from had a new set of stalks they threw in. Saved me some dollars for sure.

Good call on the additional items! I know the plugs are new and were replaced after the borescope, but otherwise have no ages so I'll add it all to the list.

Looks a nice example.
Consider replacing the so-called Y-cable too, if slow to turn over when hot was the reason you replaced the starter motor.

It seems to be immensely better with the new starter. It was slow starting cold or hot and largely the same for each.

Search for y-cable for details. It supplies +12V from the battery, via the extra + post in the engine bay and wire corrosion increases its resistance when hot, thus less voltage reaches the starter hence it turning slowly

Is this properly painted or you will smell the paint when it gets hot?
