Default EPS bearing install help

1999 996.1
I did not have the original dual row. Had NSX 6204 single row bearing. Ok. Fine

I bought the EPS bearing
I hammered it in there until it stopped like instructions state.

question 1:
should the EPS bearing sit a bit proud? It’s not flush with the shaft opening.

question 2:
the flange initially did not lineup. I had to push down and to the right and finally got it to sit flush against the block.

sound normal to EPS installers?

thanks.

Did you lock the cams & remove the chain tensioners before removing the flange? The ims/imsb shouldn’t be off center…

if the flange does not fit flush with the engine case, DO NOT try to pull int down to the case with the bolts. If you do you stand a good chance of cracking the engine case (AMHIK). If you put tension on the case by trying to pull the flange in and it hits the bearing first, it pulls thru the bolt holes and cracks the case. Then you will need to replace your case. I found that out the hard way. If you are tightening it up and hear. hear a metallic CLINK that sound is your case cracking at one of the bolt holes.

whoa! I mean I don’t think it took that much force. It’s slightly off. I was able to get the flange on and flush with the case. But I don’t like it. I’ve removed the bolts and I’m going to remove the flange to see if the IMS shaft stays centered. Chains must be slightly pulling the shaft a bit. So still some tension even without tensioners.

I think I’m good. Called EPS this morning. All sounds normal. It was just slightly off. Flange seemed to straighten it all out.

thanks
