Default 996 dipstick

Stupid question, I think. Can't find it in archive.

When checking oil, do you push dipstick all the way until it locks with the two yellow prongs, or do you push it till it stops but the prongs don't go over the lips of the tube? There seems to be about a 1/2 litre difference.

Also, do you stop engine at operating temp and wait a few minutes, or do you check it when engine is cold and all the oil has settled? Thank you

I check it cold David, on a level surface of course. And I have always made sure the dip stick was all the way in..... (that does not sound right).

You should check when the engine is at operating temp (just like it says in the owners manual!!!), and the dip stick is pushed all the way in. Better yet--use the electronic measurement in the instrument cluster.

Thanks. Also, is there supposed to be a lip or funnel type filler aid that can be pulled out of the filler neck, or is the manual referring to the neck itself that can be pulled up out the clips to aid in refilling?

Thanks again

The oil filler neck is held to the airbox with a spring clip. Just pull it up and off of the airbox to get a better angle to add the oil. There is not a funnel that pulls out of the neck.
