996 MPG question

I'm at 19-21mpg mixed. If I'm on the freeway for an extended time it will be better than 25. My speed on the freeway is 70-90 room pending.
GC996, I'm waiting for my 996 to come back from FSI in July. I plan to service it myself, including tensioner pads. But I don't expect to need to do that for quite some time. My understanding is that you can take it to the same shops you've been using all along. Total conjecture: the issue of using an indy might only be a problem if something very serious happened to the engine, at which point you might consult FSI. I'll let you know in 20 years.

Thanks Golock. Can't wait to hear about it. I will be getting in line over the next couple of years as well.

Just getting my ducks lined up. Questions hit me when Dporto mentioned in the thread about having an FSI engine and his very good gas mileage.

Ok got it. If you do go with a FSI reconstructed engine you will be very happy.
Two reasons. (1) interested in sending my car to Jake in the next couple of years for his rebuild. (2) since its no longer an Oem engine after rebuild, not certain if Jake has specific shops that he wants you to work with that been trained.

00 C4. It's currently my daily. I get roughly 21 MPG with a mix of highway and city driving.
For me the car performs best when warm so it's short drives that kill mileage more than city driving. I agree with one of the above posters it likes to be flogged a bit.
Fuel matters a lot. I get 10-15% better mileage with ethanol free gas (it responds better as well)
Something to keep in mind everyone is probably overestimating the MPG as the speedo reads high in these cars and therefore the miles indicated will be more than miles travelled

Pretty sure the Odometer is accurate even if the speedometer isn't

I just checked yesterday and am getting 21.5 long term average according to the car computer. This is lots of around town. I also drive 30 miles to work on the highway. Again, this is long term and over many tanks of gas. I feel pretty good about it.
Like some of the other comments, new plugs and coil packs in the last 5K miles.

I have the knowledge and ability to do my own work. If I have an issue I am uncertain about, I would open a ticket at FSI. Once you have a FSI reconstructed engine, there isn't much to do except routine maintenance. So generally speaking you can keep the hood shut and drive it. If you don't have the ability to do your own work, just find a trusted Indy and have them perform the normal maintenance following the guidelines in the digital manual you receive from FSI with your engine.
