I replaced my 996 4s front lip with the turbo one, less than a $150 part and the turbo lip has a nice look to it vs stock 4s lip

Well, the new tires were supposed to go on but when I showed up for the appointment, they only had one front there!!!! No idea where the other three went. new appointment set for Friday am. I suppose now is a good time the thoroughly clean the inside of the wheels...

Most all of the new suspension is in. Major rear end stuff is torqued up, still have the front to do. Then f/r drop links, sway bar bushings, and steering tie rods left. Not a bad job, just time consuming.

Thanks to the contributors of the linked thread suspension torque values; made it easier to sort out rather than dig through the manual.

Front shocks were a bit soft and the front bump stops had deteriorated pretty badly. Everything else was in good condition. 83k miles. And just over 1,000 FLAWLESS miles on the 4.0.

New tires today. Fair to say the old set was flat worn out and dangerous...

Car had some serious negative camber as you can see; pretty much maxed out. I've dialed the camber/toe as close as to possible to oem at home. Will have a proper alignment done shortly.

Left front...

Left rear...

New rubber installed!

New tires and suspension on and looks/feels awesome!! (Overlook the garage mess, we're in the process of packing/moving....)

Also did the first oil change and dropped the sump for inspection. Everything looks awesome! A Loctite 5900 booger in the pan but no other foreign bits. Oil filter looked good, nothing scary in it.

My buddy with the 996 and I are heading to the Tail Of The Dragon early Saturday morning to meet a few other Porsche folks (Jay Read and auto.ameteur from Youtube are organizing it). Will be my first time there, looking forward to it.

OP - You probably are aware: If you don’t have a few hundred miles on the suspension to settle things out, you may feel a little bit of oddness with compression and rebound. On my previous 996 w/ B8/HR my left rear was a bit ‘springy’ for the first couple weeks, until the suspension had a number of cycles. The Dragon will be a good break in run.

Great job!

OP, feeling super inspired, some metal was recently found in my C4S oil filter and has been parked ever since and debating on what to do next. I thinking about buying the Jake Raby videos and following that verbatim, any other pointers you got? I’ll take any and all advice possible.

Not to butt in but I also own a C4S and found metal in the oil. I had taken the car in to the local indy to have the LN-E Solution installed when the metal was found. The IMS bearing had started to go, it was a stage 1 failure in that it had just started. The car had 92,000 miles. So when people say your ok past a certain amount of miles it's not true, it can happen anytime in the life of the car. I debated for a week or so about what to do. The indy said he could not install any of LN's products due to the car not passing the prequalification. He also said my choices were, flush the engine the best they could and install a standard off the shelf bearing and hope for the best. Second, send it to Jake at FSI, this would take the longest and cost the most, but a great option. Third, send my engine to LN to do a RND rebuild, this would take 3 months and although costly it would guarantee a great motor when done. Fourth, rebuild myself, at the time I had no time to do this I was working my butt off. The LNE option is what I finally decide to do, it had all the updates that Jake performs but with stock power. In hindsight I kind of wish I had gone with a FSI performer option just for the extra grunt a 4.0L would give, but such is life we make peace with our decisions. If you decide to rebuild your self, Jake's videos would be a great way to go and sounds like a lot of fun too. I hope this helps you in some way, sorry guys for the highjack.

all good, just glad I’m not the only one going through this. Mine was rebuilt at 55k with OEM bearing and appears to be failing at 101k. It definitely helps.

Don't know if you were asking me or the OP but I have about 2500 miles and 4 autocrosses. Engine has had zero issues. My big project next year is to install a UAOS, this should really make it a very reliable engine. I believe LN is now installing those with the rebuilds.

For the Jake Raby videos, I did not buy them. I hear they are good but I have no opinion to offer. I did use a pdf copy of the Porsche workshop manuals and did research quite a bit. There are a quite a lot of excellent resources out there now....and quite a few builds documented on YouTube. It's not a hard engine to work on at all, despite all of the horror stories. Just think of it as a V6 with a really high angled V haha.

Just a hair over 2,000 miles on it now. I put 935 miles on it alone this past weekend on a trip to Tail of the Dragon and Cherohala Skyway. I really hammered on it and could keep up with the 991 S in front of me. SO PLEASED!!!!

More of the weekend drives to come....

A few pictures from our quick trip to Tail of the Dragon, what an awesome weekend. Buddy and I got to meet Jay Read and Auto Amateur from YouTube and a few other nice folks. Will definitely go back with them on their next outing!!

The 4.0 liter hung with 991's on the straights...and in the curves! Following four of them at full bore was music to my ears. The collection of 996's there was great as well. The silver 996 with Martini stripes and a ducktail looked awesome!

Best part was in the rain, didn't phase the 4S a bit.
