You're late to the party. I featured his car a month ago when they were asking $22.5K (now THAT was a deal).
https://firstflatsix.com/paid-featur...6-carrera-6sp/
Someone over there must have caught wind of the post because a good follower of mine went out to buy the car and was hit with the price change and "It's a 99, its rare, which is why we raised the price".
Anyway, they refused to take a dime under the ask. And when adding in Tax, tags, IMS/Clutch/misc, tires and non poverty spec wheels your all into this thing for $33K+. Which isnt quite the value prop it was when it was $5K cheaper.

Beautiful car.
The one thing that jumps out at me a bit is the Range 1/Range 2 excursions. She has about 2-1/2 times Range 1 as my car with only 20% more hours. Range 2 is way higher than my car, which is at 2. And this car has recent Range 2 excursions within 20 hours..
How do you guys think about those excursions? I have read somewhere on this board that some guys think they are not reliable as an indicator.
I'd be grateful for any guidance.
Thanks
Rick

If there are only 2 ranges, range 2 is not good.
If there are 6 ranges, range 2 is not great, but not a real problem.
That was my understanding.

Three Wheelin'
Hit it on the nose.
I would bet a bottle of Luis' favorite whiskey, that the majority of folks on this thread tracking prices, those buying on BAT and the majority of new 996 owners are Millenials.
The Millenial generation is the largest population group in the history of the US, far superior in numbers than Boomers. And Millenials are now entering their rising earnings years from 40-65.
Whether it's an extra $1600 or not, they are the major buying force.

Which car in this thread are you referring to? The one on BaT above or the next or?
If you are referring to the sold Turbo above..it does not have the same motor as your C4S. However, the "typical" consensus and the Porsche (I cannot remember the exact number; 200/500 maybe) "acceptable range" is that if the motor is "okay" after that (range 2) you are good. However, I am speaking as a Turbo owner so I may be wrong; the knowledgebase here will correct.

To my knowledge, range 2 can only be accomplished by a downshift into a gear that forces the engine to mechanically rev above the range 1 soft cutoff, which is simply the computer shutting off the fuel supply.
Aso, range 2 does not tell you how much above the rev limiter the engine went, unlike like newer cars, so it is a gamble.
I have many range 1 counts, but no range 2 counts on my 145K mile motor. There are a large number of 996s out there and chances are better examples will come forward if one is patient.
Lastly, a PPI is a really, really good idea with these cars.

The 17” “996 Carrera 2” wheel (nicknamed “Twist”) was used on both Carrera and Boxster; possibly in differing offsets. Definitely the lightest ever used on any water cooled Carrera

The 993 “Cup 2” wheel is altogether different and was never fitted by the factory on 996 or Boxster

What are the lightest wheels ever bolted to a water cooled 911? The ad that you [I think] are referring to in the post above yours (for the white '99 911) lists the wheels as "...17" Boxster twists" wheels. I don't think I ever heard of Boxster twist wheels but then, I never really paid too much attention to early Boxsters. My 2000 C2 has these wheels but I always thought they were referred to as "993 Cup" wheels.
