I am contemplating adding the fourth stalk. I am curious about the situation as it stands now - I have a '99 that displays the temperature, and the steering wheel is slightly off center (1 degree?) Would the temperature be displayed straight from the factory, or did that have to be activated? Wondering if the PO started the project to just get the temperature...or perhaps bailed after seeing the complexity of task, remounted steering wheel slightly askew.

Is the switch to the fourth stalk a project that requires splicing wiring, or are their electrical connectors that simply need to be plugged in (wishful thinking?)

Mine is a '99 and displays the temperature too.

My '99 had no temperature when I bought it but I activated it a few months ago with Durametric.

The temp display was off by default if you didn't have the computer option. Many dealers activated it as a courtesy.

There was a guy who sells the harnesses, you'd have to search Rennlist, I bought one when I bought a used stalk, then I had to recode the cluster. The only thing I really got out of it was the outside temperature.

I bought the same harness as above, and I read you can hook them into the cluster and attach to toggle switches (using the blank black switches next to the climate control) if you don't want to install the stalk. I never finished as the plan was to run the wires when I fix the burnt out Trip Odometer bulb, but it's one of those projects that's stayed on the back burner.
