Top gear Exhaust
#16
Figured it'd be better to revive a thread than start a new one for a small question. It appears the Top Gear mufflers don't have the little accordion on the pipe, yet when you look at some other after market exhausts the 996.2 exhausts have the accordion (Cargraphic has it for example). How critical is that?

Is your car a Tiptronic or manual? I noticed that Cargraphic has the "accordion" section on the tip version of their sound version muffler and not on the manual... I have had the Top Gear mild mufflers for about 3 years with no issues on my C2 Tip, but am curious about the need for the accordion as well. Not sure what effect if any would be due to the type of transmission you have, but am interested to hear other's points of view.

I've got the manual transmission. I've been looking at various mufflers. I've contemplated a Fister or Gundo, but I don't want to hack up the original exhaust in the rare chance I sell the car I can put it back to stock. I've even conemplated having a local muffler shop fab something up since it's just a muffler with minimal other piping...
One thing I'm curious about, since sound/volume is so subjective, is how loud is the muffler bypass on these cars is? I only bring this up because a muffler bypass on a Macan Turbo isn't bad at all, but a LOT of the Macan guys think it's "way too loud". I know the turbo does quiet a bit of the muffling, but is it really that obnoxiously loud?

I had Top Gear 200 Cell cats for about 2 years. The metal/welding quality and fitment was great, however the cat internals completely failed and caused some really bad rattles. Had to remove them and I ended up going FVD catless and no issues.

Definitely wouldn't recommend them for anywhere that tests for anything other than obdii emissions equipment status as a binary Y/N

I also had the bricks go bad in a 200 TG set from 2019. They may have had some quality control issues for a while. I bought another set last fall. I calculate I can spend $600 every 4 years and go 16 years before I equaled what I’d spend for fancier cats…or even OE cats.

I left it off in the hope someone would notice one of the few UAOS installs in Australia.
