Cabrio quick question..

I was in a hurry and put the cab (996 2003) away with the top down and was going to cover it...I wanted to put the windows up, only the fronts went up ...is this normal..
Didn't have time to run the top up to check if that is correct operation....???

Mine does the same thing (C4S)

Yes - that is normal. The rear windows will not go up with the top down.

Agree with all. Smaller 1/4 windows will not operate if the top is down.

You can override it by sticking your pinky in the slot where the top latches in the front, while you press the window button. There is a micro switch in there.

Good question.

This is an interesting 996 hack to get the rear quarter windows up when the top is down, and yes it works with whichever finger you use. I think it looks good too!

Rear quarter windows up with top-down

My question is why Porsche doesn't want the rear windows up when top-down? /X3

Simple. The quarter glass is (in a way) supported by the top. If someone were to have the quarter glass up and accidently lean on it too hard you can easily shatter the glass or bend the regulator.

That's what she said.

And you do NOT want to mess up that regulator.

While the door regulators are quite easy to swap out the quarter windows are a huge pain. I had to swap mine out in the middle of winter when I put on my hardtop for the season and the window wouldn't come back up. Not a fun repair at all.

I find the rear windows not coming up aggreviating. I understand the support issue. I am seriously looking at the SmartTop unit for these cars.

Rear windows staying down is not a big deal, i just thought there was a "problem"
