Default What Were Your 3 Most Favorite Mods?

As we all know owning one of these cars is so much fun to both drive and modify. There are endless things to do to these machines for all sorts of tastes and applications.

I think it would be interesting to hear what you've done to your 996 that's had a positive impact on your ownership experience and how/why. I'm not looking to discuss what mods one should do to their car or what are the best overall mods to do.

Let's hear the top three things you've done that have made the biggest impact on/for you.

For me:

1. Fister Exhaust. (sounds amazing over 3K RPM, no drone and relatively inexpensive)
2. Function First Shift ****. (I never liked the factory shift ****, this one feels so much better in the hand than the stock unit)
3. 997.2 GT3 Shift Console. (shorter throw, smother, tighter gear changes. overall better shifting performance)

I've got a set of RSS engine mounts coming so I'm interested to see where they fall into this equation once installed. Also, I'll definitely be sending out the steering wheel to get re-wrapped and thickened up a bit. Still deciding on Dallas Custom or Carsdream for the work but I suspect it will have a major positive impact.

I can't pick three, but the following make for a great package:
  • Numeric shifter
  • Rennline adjustable accelerator pedal
  • GT3 steering wheel
  • FunctionFirst shift console riser
  • x74 Suspension
  • Gemballa exhaust/200 cell cats
  • FunctionFirst shift ****
  • 6GT3 rims

And one love/hate pair: GT3RS wing (installed by previous owner) and cup front splitter (I added for aero balance). Hate the way it looks, love the way they perform.

my best modifications (2003 c4s) to date are:
(1) apple car play compatible touch screen audio receiver with integrated back up camera
(2) fully integrated front and rear facing radar detector system

Living in NJ/NY/PA area the radar detector is worth every penny. combined with WAZE app i can drive as i like without fearing whats hiding behind every blind curve.

i know others dont consider these as real "modifications", but they make MY driving experience a joy.

Which radar system did you go with? I'm in the same region and I've just started researching this so I'm right in the beginning stages of learning more about it.

1 RoW C4S Suspension
2 Tequipment short shifter
3 Gundo hack

I would say that the 19" wheels are before than the Gundo hack, but as they came already with the car...

i had K40 installed in front and rear bumpers, totally invisible and controlled by small remote control i clip to visor. front laser diffuser has two sensors which are visable in front grill. i used two of my unused center console buttons for visual "blue light" warnings (either front or back) and the system also gives vocal warnings as to what "band" is hitting you. the system has many settings and first few days i had to get used to multiple warnings from road signs/electronic doors/etc, but after changing settings i now only get REAL warnings. When it goes off i'm immediately on the brake and then the hunt to see where "they" are! then my wife and i laugh when we see source coming around the next bend 20 seconds after i've been warned.

had it installed at high performance shop in morrisville, PA. great service in case you want a referral.

Here are my top 3... grrr I couldn't settle on 3, here are 4.
  1. Fister exhaust - I'd consider this mandatory and would do it again in a heartbeat.
  2. IMS Solution - Worry free ownership now
  3. Garage door switch - Wired up a targa roof toggle switch to my garage door opener and now have a totally factory looking way to open my garage door without an ugly opener in sight.
  4. Valentine 1 - Not much point in driving a 911 if you can't open it up on back roads. Knowing there isn't a cop coming the other way with his radar on is a good feeling (2 of my 3 tickets happened this way prior to purchasing the V1)

1) Milltek exhaust; sounds great when "on it", but nice and quiet when cruising.
2) Eibach Pro-Kit springs; ride height is perfect and comfort is still good; these were on the car when I bought, so it wasn't a mod I did, but it's a good choice. These cars don't look right at the normal US ride height.
3) Targa switch for garage door opener, as others have mentioned.
4) 3-blink turn signal modification
5) Last would be cosmetic touches that make the car look the way I want; smoked turn signal lenses, headlight washer delete, brushed nickel and black hood badge, silver center console, LED city lights, LED frunk and engine compartment lights, etc.

Assuming all maintenance is up-to-date:
1.) 997 short shifter
2.) Tubi Style exhaust
3.) Tires

2. HPDE with a good instructor.
3. I do love my Fabspeed, but it came from the PO.
