Food for thought
I recently had a conversation with my 88 year old father.
When he started the business in 1984 he spent all of his time and money building the business. He had nothing extra to buy or drive what he really wanted, which was a sports car.
Fast forward 30 years and his 3 sons (of which I am one) have grown the businesses to the point where we are all fairly comfortable ... though my dad never drove the car he always wanted.
Yes he bought a Cadillac but that was always an old man's car. Sigh
Tonight I offered to swap cars with him for the day. He could drive my 996 and I would drive his Forester. (Yes, he still comes to work 4 days a week for 4-5 hours a day).
I was amazed at the smile on his face when I made the offer.
He asked me why I would do that and trust him with my car??
The moral of the story.:
Drive and share what makes you happy.
It's just a car ..
Honor your parents for as long as you can and give back more than what was given to you.

I wish I could have done that before my father passed away. Great story.

Time to force Dad to go for a ride and he can drive. He was the first person to take me in a Porsche back in the 80s, he installed cell phones back then and a client let him take the keys for a weekend. Since then I had a Skip Barber custom slant nose 911 in a pinkish red with red leather on a gigantic poster above my bed. Thanks for the inspiration @tom__w

Great see this post. It hits home for me.
I actually quit my 9-5 job 4.5 years ago to start my own business. My goal was to build it so I can take care of my parents. My 9-5 wasn't going to cut it. Nice life for me, but that's about it. The last thing I wanted to do was have regrets.
They sacrificed so much for us. I used to work and plan for myself. Now I am focused on them.
It has been tough but it's slowly coming together. Time is so precious to me now. My dad is 77 and will need a new car soon. Hoping I can buy him one.

My dad is 84. He came over from Germany when he was 25. He has always admired German cars and motorcycles. He has owned a few cars and motorcycles, but he has ever owned a "dream car".
I know he would like to drive my 996, but the Euro GT3 seats make it too difficult to get in and out. I bought a set of standard seats so he can drive the car. This post motivates me to get them installed in the next couple of weeks.
