Default Scored Cylinder! Would you?

So would any of you guys buy a 996 that had minor scoring? Compression and leakdown solid! No smoking, ticking etc!

Anyway you can prevent it from getting worse or once it starts it continues to worsen?

Thanks in advance!

It only gets worse, keep looking, find a clean one, be patient.

If it was priced as a roller or close to it I would. Paying average C4S prices while knowing you're going to need to replace the engine, or at a minimum the bottom end, doesn't seem like a good idea.

I'm not sure why he'd buy a 996 with issues when there are 996's out there without issues. There is no amount you can deduct that will make you not ultimately regret the decision to buy someone else's ex-problem.

Because every 996 is subject to bore scoring. Just because you buy one now without it doesn't mean it won't happen down the road. If you buy one cheap enough you can put an RND engine in it or similarly built engine and fix the majority of the design flaws.

Exactly, not every996/986/987/997 is going to have the issue, You can find one that doesn't.

Doesn't mean that it will also, Jake @F6I provides guidelines to minimize the impact of happening, I would say that I do agree with his findings. It's harder and harder to find a good one.
They are available.
