Default 996 2003 automatic - transmission oil change costs 1000 usd @deslership!

Hello everyone,

this doesn't seem right. I just called prestige imports, my dealership, and they told me it would cost about $1000 to change the transmission oil on my 2003 911 tiptronic.

Is that price normal? please advise?

Learning how to change your own fluids will save you a lot of money. Are you mechanically inclined?

Nope, i actually took my car to my local mechanic that has been specialized in classic Porsches for 25 years and he told me he couldn’t do it himself and i should take it to my dealer...

Having done this on my 03, it's not easy. You have to piece together a device to force the fluid in through a special one-way valve. And the procedure for checking the fluid level requires a lazer heat meter.

But yeah, $1K is too much. I think my local P-dealer said around $700, which makes sense. It's easily three hours of work, plus the cost of the fluid and gasket/filter.

Dealer in Los Angeles I recently asked for quotes to replace tiptronic trans fluid and filter, and replace differential fluid. Was quoted $570 for trans fluid "renewal", and differential fluid "service" $350. In her quote no mention of trans filter or gasket. Don't know why service advisor didn't include trans filter in her quote, and why not say "replacement" of fluid instead of "renewal" and "service" which are not as accurate?

Asked for a quote for replacing trans fluid and filter and replace differential fluid from an independent shop and it was $375 labor, and $176.04 trans fluid, $31.62 trans gasket, $72.55 trans filter, for $655.21 total. Went with the indy because other needed work was way way less, but his invoice doesn't have any mention of the differential so I am not sure if it is done? We talked about him replacing the differential fluid and I asked him via text if he did it, but he didn't reply.
