996 Cab Moaning
I have a 2000 996 cab and I need some help diagnosing what could best be described as a distinct "moan" for an extended moment. The noise is not coming from the engine and I originally thought it was wind noise from turbulence around the right mirror. It is definitely coming from outside the engine or interior and can be heard louder when you put the windows or top down. It does not sound mechanical or tire noise. It happens with the top up or down and is sporadic. I tried to tie it to engine speed since it at first seemed to happen around 30 mph but then I noticed it again around 45. I'm stumped. Any ideas or help help long-time Porsche owners could give would be appreciated.

Cooling fan, either on the decklid, or the two in the front by the radiators? They can be quite loud, especially the radiator fans when in high speed mode.

fpb11- Thanks for your suggestion. I looked at the grommet and it appears to be fine - what exactly am I looking for? It appears to be down tight around the entire grommet. I looked for any loose areas and couldn't find any. You mentioned the purge valve being clogged. How do I access it to check?
