the new guy's trip home

Purchased the 2003 Thursday near Washington DC (flew out Wednesday) and drove back to Wisconsin over the next 2 days.

Day 1, almost all of which was spent in West Virginia, was the memorable part. Plenty of twisty roads and great vistas. My route:

Had a great deal of fun getting to know the car! That route was a very balanced combination of 4 lane divided highway and less traveled 2 lane roads.

Day 2 was much more mundane; once you get north of Columbus OH, it's quite flat with lots of farm fields. I took highways 33 and 30 from Athens, OH to the IL/IN border. Traffic around Chicago was not fun, but that was expected.

Before leaving the dealership:

Scenic overlook on highway 48 in WV (Fred Long Centennial Park):

Nice post! Love it when we hear about the good trips!

How was the car? Options on the car?

Great looking car and glad you didn’t have any issues. I agree that it’s a good way to get to know the car and it sounds like day 1 was a lot of fun.

i too picked up my pcar from Denver and drove it to NC. Day 1: into the evening I found out the lights didn’t work.

Day 2: hit Tail of the Dragon - the coolant is pressurized and apparently had some air bubbles. The side to side forced the air to exit and then the fluid followed.

Day 3: made it home and she has been a champ ever since!

Enjoy the journey.

The car is in very nice shape (IMO) for being 17 years old. Really only 1 noticeable flaw above the right tail light.

My initial reaction when I first drove it (this is my first Porsche) was how "tight" it felt. The firm suspension, crisp shifting, precise steering...and to use my wife's words (who drove it for the first time this morning), it feels like the car is wrapped around you.

Car has heated, power seats. Xenon head lights. I'm pretty sure the 18" wheels are not base model. Metropol blue interior.

You weren't too far from me. Would've been cool to meet up!

I've taken the trip on 70 to 68 to 79. Love that stretch of highway. West Virginia has some amazing back roads, too.

Congrats on the car!

Very nice! Enjoy the car.

Silver and metropol blue, just like my 03 c4s. Enjoy every mile. What was your impression of the gears and your car’s sweet spot?

Nice sounds like a fun trip....
The time you see all the minor flaws is when you wash it for the first time...
BUT not to worry, just start thinking about what you are going to do to it first.....(Change the oil, and flush the brakes)

Still getting used to it, so I didn't go crazy. If I got above 4000 RPM, it was only once or twice.

Does seem to come alive around 3500. :p

After you get comfortable with it you’ll push it a little harder. The sound is even better between 4-5k. You’ll forget about turning the radio on.

The smiles it brings never stop. Enjoy

So glad you pulled the trigger, now keep posting! Great car/color/spec! How about some interior pics!
