Purpose Of black widget in center of dash?
For god’s sake does anyone know what this is? Is it in the center of all 996 dashboards or just mine? Does it have a purpose or is it the universe’s way of torturing me?

Also the GPS sensor (if you have one or get one aftermarket) is under that cover.

They replaced the early 996.1 horsepower generator with the late 996.1/996.2 anxiety generator. The antenna is masked by that widget. Porsche installed it on all small bearing IMS cars after mid 2000 (nobody knows the exact serial numbers) and all cars after 2001.
