IMS Decal

Hello all. Newbie to the forum and Porsche's in general. Picked up a pretty nice 1999 911. Some service records but nothing that shows the IMS being replaced. While washing the car I came across a little silver metallic decal in the door jamb that says " IMSG0836". Hoping, ofcourse that this means there is an aftermarket IMS bearing already installed. Google searches reveal nothing and a call to LN engineering confirmed its not one of theirs. Anyone here have any ideas? Thanks in advance.

One pic could be worth $ 1000.00 or more

That alphanumeric sequence is definitely a different format than the LN Engineering IMS Bearing Retrofit sticker on my car.

I doubt it has anything to do with Ims retrofits.
the 1999’s don’t even need them in my experience. The bearings in those are pretty robust.
‘A white 996 is super nice imho.

Just to throw a spanner - my LN Pro retrofit came with two stickers like that as well as the other larger silver/black sticker which is now in my service book.

Call LN Engineering tech support or submit a ticket online, they can tell you if they have sequences like that. They've always been super helpful to me.

FWIW, a few years ago, I had the OEM IMSB replaced in my '99 Mk !...primarily for "peace of mind" But the shop who performed the work lost the LNE decals!. While I have retained all the paper work and receipts and am confident about the work performed (Dual Row Pro Retrofit), I'm still upset about their carelessness.

Did they send the old bearing back to LN?

Thanks to all for the replies. I did call LN and they don't recognize it as theirs. I even called Pelican to see if its perhaps one of theirs. No luck there either. May just go ahead and replace it in time just for peace of mind. I'll post pics of the car shortly. Its a white 99 with the aerokit and Fikse wheels. 83,000 miles.

I picked mine up yesterday and my stickers definitely don't look like yours. I also have a 99 with a little less miles, 51k and they said everything looked good but its honestly cheap insurance compared to an engine rebuild. Plus if you haven't done the clutch its a parts only job while doing the IMS, RMS. Might want to check out the air oil separator as well since those are a common fail item.

Pic's are a must if it's white!

I'd snap a pic and email it to FSI. You never know but they might have a clue...

yes agreed. I have an trusted shop nearby preparing a quote for the IMS, RMS, Clutch etc.... In the meantime, what a great car. Drives real solid. No leaks, does not seem to burn oil and sounds real healthy.

IMS Gaurdian. Do you have any wires going to your oil drain plug?

abbiesdad 05-16-2019 01:42 PM

yes, actually I do!
