Do you have a fender rolling tool for sale?

Wierd, my post didn't stick.

I have a 996.2 with gt3 rims and I get some intermittent rubbing (the front tires). I'd like to buy, rather than rent, a fender rolling tool. If you have one you're willing to sell that fits the 5 lug porsche, please message me with details (price, shipping, etc.). Thanks!

You could always do the old school baseball bat method.

The best one on the market is the Eastwood. The front rarely needs rolling. Is it hitting the fender liners too?

Thats odd? Are you running the standard GT3 tyre size or slightly larger?

I did this quite a few years ago and just bought the tool and resold it (as used at a discount) worked out quite well

I bought one from walmart.com for like $40. I've used it and it works great.

Pictures of the area? What tire size? I have 235s in front and it is sitting fairly low. Definitely get intermittent scraping, but not at the track.

Thanks all.

I have a bat, and could try that. I figured I should use a "proper" tool, since there is one. Seems like the likelihood of a uniform roll would be better in unskilled hands (I suck at body work).

Don't you need an adapter for the porsche 5 lug with the eastwood tool? Seems like that doubles the price...

Did the walmart.com tool work without an adapter, or did you modify it?

Standard GT3 tire sizes.

It doesn't rub while stopped in a static position, but upon articulation (big bumps) while driving. And while backing up at full lock.

Yes, There is rubbing on the outside of the front section of the fender liner, not at rest, but there are wear marks.

I suspect it is the suspension. It came to me with the lowest factory suspension, the X74, which is 10mm lower than ROW M030 to begin with. Plus it has GT3 control arms and a track biased alignment. The last two POs raced the car; it still drives and handles like a race car (which is amazing, if you like that, and I do).

It came with Turbo Twist rims, and the lower wheel well liners removed. The twists are narrower by 10mm (225 vs 235), same offset. I assumed that the liners were removed due to damage, but after replacing them, I realize they likey just removed them to eliminate rubbing.

The main issue is that the metal arch occasionally "machines" strips of rubber off the outer edge/corner of the tread.

I could go back to the twists or 5 spokes (I still have both), but I love the handling and aesthetics of these GT3 rims.

Here are some photos to give a sense of what I'm working with.

Driver's side wheel liner shows more rubbing.

But some on the passenger side too.

Not a lot of room to spare at the front. You can see some of the edge wear too.

No spacers. But it is inside the fender. The closest area is at the front, and this is where it tucks back in.

Not much gap - x74 height.

Other car for comparison.

I have one I used on a 928. I had to modify the lug pattern (drill and grind) but it fits our pattern now. I’ll send you pics when I get home. Gunar

https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...-a-little.html My thread on it. If you want it $50 shipped and used only once. Gunar

Love the rims by the way, completely agree you need to work around them. Let us know how it all works out.

Just cause the pictures may point the folks that don't know,, Fender rolling tool is only going to help on the fender lip.. not the inner areas,

I can't imagine doing this on a Porsche the first time you've ever done it especially if you suck at body work.. :)

While this isn't a job requiring a concourse work,, it is fairly easy to ruin the fender,,,
and the rolling tools are slightly easier, but by no means a push the button and poof perfect job thing..

The tools typically are about 150,, (for the better ones) a good performance body shop should probably do the job in the 300 range..

Rolled fenders on a street car is a walk away for me if I'm buying..

Just thinking out loud.. Good luck on the quest..

cds72911 05-16-2019 12:51 PM

Thanks.

I just need to ease the inner edge up, this isn't rocket science.

I'm sure this car would give perfectionists lots of reasons to walk away, but I love it, and think this minor tweak will help me continue to enjoy the wide contact patch of this setup. It is an amazing handling setup for a c2.

I see how rolling will help the rubbing at the outer edge, but you also show rubbing in post #7 inboard of the lip plastic inner fender liner. I don’t see rolling helping that, or do you also plan to remove the liner entirely? Or maybe I’m misinterpreting the pics?

The front portion of the liners is removed. This gives the little bit of clearance necessary.
