inside lights
This is a 2002 996 convertible. When I open a door no interior lights illuminate until the key is inserted. Is this normal? I would think the courtesy lights would illuminate on door opening.

On my coupe they do light up as soon as the door is opened. Don't know what controls them...the lights in the door card. Probably a microswtich in the door latch. But the overhead lights are controlled by the switch settings.

cant find it to re-post but someone did a very detailed write up on the 7 micro switches in the door that control the lights, locks, and windows. i liked it so much i printed it out and leave it in my glove compartment. hopefully you can find it. i'll keep looking for it as well.

Also there is a condition called “shipping mode” where the lights are disabled to protect the battery from being drained during shipping. The dealer is supposed to “handover” programming at delivery. If the car has always been this way maybe it was never reprogrammed or it could have slipped back into ship mode.

With the key on or in the accessory position , all the inside lights work properly with the inside and outside door handles. The windows and doors work correctly and unlock and lock properly regardless of key position. With no key the windows, doors and the dash lights work but not the dome or inside accent lights. Key has to be on or in the accessory position for these to work
