So we can have some illusion of privacy on the Internet. I guess.

Or because we've seen it done so many times that we believe it is normal to blur them.

I've always asked this question. It's on the car. As I drive. Literally everyone sees it.

I do, however, strip location data off of photos when posting online.

I've never understood either. Only reason I can see is if you're taking a picture of the car while doing something illegal, or something that would void your warranty or insurance. There are probably a thousand pictures on the internet of my car with the license plate clearly visible. I don't care.

To be honest, when I see cars for sale with the plates covered and actually contact the owner the people are complete wacko's. They are afraid of their own shadow, will not give service records, want to meet at some dumb place to show the car...etc It is pretty much is a safe bet that they have some issues with paranoia.

Good one mrdeezy! Who would ever think 996 owners would be paranoid? Unless every IMS and RMS and AOS is really out to get you.

Not to generalize or perpetuate stereotypes, or anything.

The thought is to keep a potential thief from looking up your plate and coming to steal your car. If you notice, magazines remove plates as well except for vanity plates.

I think one thing I worry about is all of the Machine learning and AI stuff that is constantly scraping data. I try not to give my data away for free for advertisers....so I cover don't show license plate. Probably a waste of time but it makes me feel better.

I'm sure the magazines are taking them off to improve the looks of the cars. Same reason you don't see license plates in new car brochures or TV ads.

If somebody successfully plans a heist and steals my car based on an online photo, I'll tip my cap to them, collect the insurance money, and buy another one.

You do know that those little camera thingies at most every major intersection are really tag readers? They are not watching the traffic go by or red light runners. The cops can follow you around just by your tag....and then nail you by pinging your cell phone location. I wear a colander hat lined with foil when I drive my 996 and I leave my cell phone at home. Never ever open the sun roof...

You could build a FARADAY cage over the car...OMG the paranoia... oh, and don't forget the satellites, they can read your tag from 100 miles up....
