Default New to forum, need help please

Hi all. i recently joined the forum and have a few questions. I have a 2005 Porsche 911/996 C4S. The engine is completely stock as of now, but I am going to be adding a VF Racing Supercharger and potentially some exhaust but i have several questions;
1. What feedback does everyone have on the VF Racing supercharger kits for the 996? (Install, longevity, power, sound, etc.)
2. I am also looking at adding the Billy Boat headers and exhaust for about $1200 a piece. I am curious if adding the headers and exhaust are worth the money from a power standpoint, how much additional power does it provide? What feedback do have on Billy Boat? Also, will the Bill Boat exhaust systems (not headers) from a 996 turbo work on my C4S?

Thanks a lot in advance for your help. Eric.

I have no advice for your speed equipment questions. I do want to point out that there were only 728 2005 996 C4S built. Do you really want to hotrod one of 728?

Exhaust on a NA really doesn't add much power.
I don't know about with a super charger.

$1200 is awfully cheap for exhaust.
I'd wonder how well it was made for that price.
For the best quality exhaust for Porsche, check out Fabspeed.

Turbo exhaust definitely won't fit a C4S.

The bottom end of the standard m96 isn't really strong enough for forced induction , rods and especially rod bolts can fail under normal aspiration never mind supercharging!

I'm currently running Billy Boat mufflers and honestly really enjoy the sound they make, and have gotten compliments on the sound as well. Top end is a little raspy, but for the cost I'm pleased and still have the factory mufflers if I ever sell the car. Would probably be better fit / noise coupled with headers and orange cap mod.

Can't say on fitment from a Turbo as mine is a base C2 N/A.

There is a 2003 C4S on Bring a Trailer right now with a VF Supercharger.
https://bringatrailer.com/listing/20...carrera-4s-30/

It will be interesting to see the final price, if the Supercharger adds or detracts from the value.

Thank you for the information wildbilly32. I was not aware of its rarity. How do i find out facts like that? Do you recomend a web page? I am also curious how that compares to a 2004 model, for example, is 728 that low of a number? Thanks again.

Wow, i was not aware Noz1974, thank you. The information you provided leads to MANY other questions, but maybe you could help me with a few...
This is my first Porsche but I have owned other sports cars in my life and I always heard that Porsche engines were very solid (one of the reasons i wanted to buy one), so much so that a lot of amatuer racers use Porsche because they are able to withstand the abuse of racing, etc. is that not true? I am very surprised that a Porsche engine is so delicate, and that from what you are saying, is simply NOT going to be able to handle the Supercharger. I have never owned a car with a supercharger before but i can say that i have had many friends that have dropped one on their cars with great success (not Porsches). Thanks again for the education!

$1200 for a used Billy boat isn't unusual. Billy Boat has a good reputation. Headers add some power, mufflers none.

Billup, thanks! Follow up Questions; 1. What is an orange cap mod? 2. Did you notice any power gains from the addition of the Billy Boat exhaust?

"996's produced and sold as 2005's", as info.
728 4S Coupe
763 4S Cabs
201 Carrera Cab
276 GT3
122 Turbo
18 GT2
129 Targa
90 GT3 Cup
127 Turbo Cab
598 Turbo S
960 Turbo S Cab

Total 996 production of all models for MY 05 was 4012
Data from: Porsche 996 The Essential Companion

For comparison:
2004 Carrera 4S Coupé: 4365
2003 Carrera 4S Coupé: 7388
2002 Carrera 4S Coupé: 4802

I believe the above book might list model production by year, as well. 2005 was the swap over year from 996 to 997 type. So not only low numbers compared to previous years but also last year of the 996 series. I have one myself. I'm also not saying they are super rare and special, but if it was me I would pick a different year to "highly" modify.
