I started a similar thread to this on a different large forum and people are reporting back that this happens a lot in FL and IL on older vehicles. It appears that it is easier for the DMV employees to enter EXEMPT on the mileage than to validate actual mileage on the vehicle when renewing titles. Since it is the path of least resistance, it is the path often taken.

Someone please correct me if I am wrong.
You are 100% correct. I live in fl and just happen to be hanging out with a used car lot owner. He confirmed that almost every car he sells is considered exempt once they are 10 years old or over 100k miles.

That's nice. All I can tell you is you're wrong. No harm in that.

An exempt title in Florida is not a big deal. However it could hurt resale value slightly in other states. I wouldn't worry about it. 996s are at the bottom of the depreciation cycle, 99 is a very good year and chances are your going to keep that sweet ride for a while.

Let us know when it's home.

I live in IL and they are right, over 10 years old, the mileage most of the time is not reported when the title is changed. But if you bring it for emission testing or for somebody to repair it, it's captured.

It would not bother me at all.

While I agree I like a lot of the upgrades made to the .2 cars, I personally felt the .1 cars suffered less reliability issues from the motors for the most part. No bore scoring like the 3.6, good chance of double row IMS. Granted they have the possibility of a cracked head but I would prefer replacing a head to replacing cylinders any day of the week.

Is that car at Millenia Motors? If so - I'd jump. It's around the corner from me. They have a pristine reputation for quality cars and the shop that services the cars (Drivers Choice) is, bar none, the best around.

My state automatically lists “mileage exempt” on the title once the vehicle reaches a certain age. It wouldn’t bother me, but I see how it may confuse someone from another state.

Texas also marks EXEMPT on the title for older vehicles even if you state the mileage on the title transfer form.

Thanks for the responses. I committed to purchasing the vehicle. Hopefully, I’ll be in the P-Club by this time next week.

Just got home from picking it up in Orlando. These cars are awesome on the freeway!

Now comes the planning for a nice 997.2!
