What's your car's name?
#2
I wasn't aware that many other people named their cars. Back in the old days I always did, as did many of the other sports car people I knew.
My wife decided our (okay, really my) 718C is Portia. It's a good name. She has curves in places most cars don't even have places.

Here's the name history:
Cuda911: My first sports car was my '70 Cuda. M.S. in Marine Biology, wrote a paper on Barracudas, and my first date with my ex was a barracuda fishing trip. Always wanted a 911, and was working on my EMT certification (emergency 911). Needed a screen name for AOL (remember that?), so came up with the name Cuda911 in 1992 that I have used ever since. At least quintuple or more meanings to the name.
Little Red: Sara chose that name. Not my first choice.
Baby Bananas: Sara chose that name. Not my first choice.
Sharky: Silver 914 and I have had a solid silver shark pendant on my key chain for many years. Used to do a lot of shark SCUBA diving.
Douglas: We bought this car from an 84 year old lady. It was her son's car (Douglas), and he passed away from cancer at the age of 54, so we named it in his honor. Also, as a kid, my dog's name was Douglas, so double meaning.
Harlot: Bought the car from a friend who had named it Charlotte. Converted it to a track ****, so changed the name from Charlotte to Harlot. Before and after pix:
Big Blue: Previous owner named it that, so I kept the name. 4" lift kit and 32-inch tires. Bonzai Blue.

I've never really liked naming cars, but we have the same issue. With two Carreras, two Boxsters, two Cayman (or is that Caymani), two 914s, and a bunch of other cars, names do make it easier to know which car we mean. We don't name all of them, but one is Cuda911 (991), One is Baby Bananas ('07 Cayman), one is Little Red ('14 Cayman), one is Sharky ('74 914), one is Douglas ('73 914), Big Blue (Jeep), and one is Harlot (track **** Boxster).

It pretty much started when I had two red Colts and two red Talons. My navigator asked if I was going to bring the red one to whatever rally we were running at the time. I asked, which red one?
"Stig" - didn't have a name for a long time. It was simply the rally Colt. Car was campaigned by my father since new. It became my car in 1982. Needs a little work to get it back in shape. Stig had two possible meanings. Stig O'Tracey from a Monty Python sketch, or Stig Blomqvist the rally champion.
"Sammy" (the red rocker). My navigator, at the time, bought the car for $50 and gave it to me. I stripped it down to nothing and rebuilt it into a time-trial/ autocross car. Was a rally car in its previous life. It weighed about 2650 lbs when I got it. I got it down to 1550 lbs. Had to add ballast to bring it up to the class minimum.
"Eagle 1" - my first Talon. Gone - many parts live on in "PE".
"Talon 2" was my second one. Built into a stage rally car.
The Mitsubeagle "Partial Eclipse" - shell was an Eclipse GSX ($500) - drivetrain came from Eagle 1. Was built to win the Press On Regardless Rally (which it did at least twice) and RallyCross championships, which it also did.
"Herbie" - my first little love bug (944). Got rear-ended close to ten years ago. Parts will go into "Young Herbie" - an MR RallyCross car that is slowly being built (more accurately, planned).
"Stu" - the replacement for "Herbie". The engine is out. It's about halfway done being rebuilt. Keep finding other projects that shove it lower down the list.
"Walter" - name after Walter Rohrl. Got tired of trying to keep a Talon running. Took a slightly different direction with AWD. No good action shots of Walter, but we won POR in 2016 and 2018 with this one. It's got a younger brother - a 2001 A4, "Sparky".
"Nico", named after Nico Rosberg. Was my wife's 944 for a while (since I broke the engine in her first 944 - "Penelope"). It's a floater now. She went and bought herself a Volvo V70 R ("Uwe") for daily use. We have a black Talon - name "Lewis", so Nico kind of made some sense.
Newest is "Speedy". So named as it reminds me of the 356 Speedster my father had when I was a little kid.
Other junk we have, but won't waste more space with photos...
E250 "Rosie" - after the AC/DC song, Whole Lotta Rosie.
Wife's old F-150 (now mine) - "Angus" (another Monty Python sketch).
Wife's new F-150 - "Fiona"
Two Audi S4s. First is "Wolfgang", always beeping and flashing warnings on the dash - became the Audi that cries Wolf.
The other S4 is "DoppleGang" Twin to Wolfie. Will get rebuilt with parts from Wolfie, to fix the damage at the right front.
The "Fell Beast" - a black Chrysler Town and Country minivan than I bought from a local 924 racer for $100. Perfect farm vehicle.
"Sh!tting Bull" - Jeep Comanche pick-up. If it ever gets some attention and we get it running, it might become a horse manure hauler.
We even named our tractors: (Groundskeeper) "*****" , "Roddy" and "Dear John".
